PR Earthquake - Spring Like Severe Weather Outbreak in Winter in South - Winter 2020

Puerto Rico just can't get a break.
Well the Earth is breaking...
...rocking and rolling today.
Yes, PR is earthquake country.
We hear about Hispaniola more...
...but you got mountains you have earthquakes.
Fault lines run through the Caribbean.
Hurricanes attack the Caribbean.
Jamaica has had earthquakes and hurricanes together.
You learn a lot from studying history and geology.

Here's your general video below.
It began yesterday and continues on today.
Aftershocks continue today.
Hurricanes don't have aftershocks.
When they are gone... it's over.
And you clean up.
Earthquakes don't work that way.

It goes without saying they need help.
Charity and prayers.
Or give your favorite charity there you trust.

I've been back in Raleigh getting back into a routine, unpacking, cleaning up, doing laundry and trying to remember where I was before I left. For all the journals I keep I really should have one that says "After Traveling ... Get Back on Track Fast" as every wonderful trip means coming back to the every day routine and research I work on as well as every day routines. I have a trip to Seattle coming up but the date is not set just yet. Miami, Monsey ... am I really back in Raleigh? Yes, and to be honest I like being home in Raleigh these days. The air is cooler and it's easier to breathe yet today we are hovering between "nice ... feels cold" and "why does it feel so raw today?" and I know why it's because rain is moving in and the skies are gray and it's a North Carolina Winter Day when you feel if it's this cold it should snow but the cold front is dry this time so all you get is cold, winter rain.

It's been an odd and interesting winter but so far snow has had a problem finding it's way to the Mid Atlantic or the South while sliding along just North of NYC and attacking New England as to be honest Winter is supposed to do because that way we have small towns covered in snow that look like a Greeting Card promising a Winter Wonderland. When you live South of the Mason Dixie Line you got to be realistic about how much snow you are going to get in any given Winter but still it is NORTH Carolina so the chances are there ... somewhere... sometime...distantly down the road. I have a friend in North Dakota, I miss that friend... should I go visit her?  With every week that passes things change subtly and supposedly change is in the air...

clt_None_anim.gif (768×496)

To be honest.... the mountains get some snow.
But everyone else got rain.
Speaking of rain in the South.
The set up for the next cold front....
...and abundant tropical moisture.
Is creating a Spring Like Set up...
No it's not Spring...
We haven't had winter yet.
But it's that sort of set up.
Progression of fronts....
...and a flow from the Gulf of Mexico.
Watch the next one down the road..

Being honest I am not 24/7 watching loops.
I watch... I do a model or a two.
I read a bit from people I respect.
Then I try not to obsess.
Not my neck of the woods... I don't care.
Being honest.. weather is locational.
Watching other people get snow is not fun.
Would @icyclone chase a thunderstorm?
Because he's bored and there's no Hurricanes to chase?
Nah... neither would I.
I love it all ...don't get me wrong.
But I want the weather ... I want snow.
I'm less a dreamer or watcher as much as doer.
And if I can't "do" weather today the way I want.
I'm probably doing something else.
I do have hobbies ya know...

As is the earthquake as it's in our Tropical World.
Wrong Earth Science but Mother Nature does her thing.
Luckily we don't have the fires they do in Australia.
Somewhere Mother Nature is always throwing..
a temper tantrum.

You can watch the forecast below.
The reliable forecast.
Short term vs long term.
Fronts are making it into Florida.
They are making it into North Carolina.
But for now we be getting rain not snow.

allfcsts_loop_ndfd.gif (799×559)

The middle of the country is getting RAIN.
Insert song "Rain on your wedding day"

That is a lot of rain.

Checking with Spaghetti Models
(which I always do every day)

Winter with it's snow is way up North.
But it's cold in North Carolina today.
Then it warms up to "why am I here?"
I stay here hoping for now.
No snow I should hit the road.
Myrtle Beach Hotels are sending me ads.
"Please come...we are open and cheap!"
Basically that's what they say...

To be honest I'm tired of hype.
A lot of hype on the news lately.
A lot of hype in the weather....
When you have a real strong WINTER pattern.
You don't need hype do you?
It's there... in your face... happening.
Like "Oh my gosh" ;)
Wait a few days you'll see.
Today we have a thin sliver of a front.

I won't say what that system looks like to me.
Use your imagination.
But you see the real problem is the next one.
Down the road still.

He goes into great detail.
He's good!
That graphic is from yesterday's email.
Become a subscriber and you will get information.
Not hype... or symbols on Apps that come and go.
But the real deal...

On Twitter.......

Cranky is also the real deal.
If you can understand his maps.
You are lucky because they are so good.
I can, I love them.
I love maps...as most of you know.

Everyone has their own needs.
Everyone likes a different style.
Good meteorological maps are always in style.

As for me I kind of feel like this today.
"That's the system now I'm outta here..."
Occurs to me that's a Mars symbol.
I told you .. I have other hobbies.

Also on Twitter...
I enjoy his videos.
Maybe I just like his voice.
Seriously... he knows weather...
...and astrology and I said I have other hobbies.
Historically storms do show up during the Solstice.
And often they show up during Eclipse times.
I don't ask why... I just watch and notice.

It's January far from Hurricane Season.
I'm into watching and noticing.
And enjoying good music...

I'll be back.
Just checking in... looking around.
Saying hello and wishing you all well.

There's nothing happening in the Tropics today.
Not my tropics.
Down the road winter comes back.
Cold air colliding with warm air.
Is always messy.

Happy 2020.
There's a Lunar Eclipse coming up.

Maybe I'll blog about it in a few days.
Full Wolf Moon Eclipse....
Yeah...

Do some research...
...I'll be back soon enough.

Have an incredible day!

Subtropical Storm Rebekah in N Atlantic - Fires in California - Power Company Turns Power Off - Rain in the SE. Hot Water in the Caribbean As We Move Into November

A press release with info was sent out.... the NHC site had this info below. And I expected the NHC went ahead and upgraded 99L to Rebekah because well .... that's what they do in 2019. I'm sure I'll give my thoughts on this later at some point but for now I'm sharing the data and the information and that's the way it goes today. Next name up Sebastien...

NHC will initiate advisories on Subtropical Storm Rebekah, located over the northern Atlantic at 5pm

While waiting for the advisory to come out I just wanted to point out President Reagan's Library in Simi Valley is in danger from the fire there being whipped by hurricane force "Devil Winds" known also as Santa Ana Winds. I know that area well as it's just North of where my Ex-husband's family home was and we'd drive up there on Sunday's for a nice ride out in the country. For Baby Boomers that grew up watching old Westerns it's where many a Western Shoot Out was filmed. Beautiful area that became filled with a suburban paradise that oozed past the San Fernando Valley when they ran out of room there. A beautiful part of the world... but not today.

Turn the sound up if you want to hear my thoughts while watching the broadcast, very crazy...
I did a video earlier talking while watching the coverage online live of the fire. As someone who has asthma (mild) whose kids had asthma that often wasn't mild and that used a Nebulizer to keep them out of the hospital and manage their asthma ...especially when there was a fire out in the Everglades and the smell of smoke spread East over Miami making kids with asthma extremely sick. The thought that I would have 3 options... 1) grab my kid and leave town 2) go to the hospital and sit in the waiting room to be safe or 3) take my chances without any power because the Power company cut the power is intolerable to think on yet to have to deal with as many are today. Many use machines to breathe or help them for various medical conditions and this cutting the grid off doesn't seem right. Fire Season in California happens every year, some years worse than others... there should be a better plan. It's like not preparing for Hurricane Season in South Florida and to be fair someone in California gets a fire every year yet Florida can go for years
without a real landfall ...yet we work them into our overall way of life.

Something seriously wrong with this situation....

Simi Valley used to be and still is in some part Horse Country and I do so love horses.

I may update later tonight on the fires.
It's very weather related as it's the WINDS...
...the hurricane force, dry winds creating this situaion.
It's Fire Season in California.
Been there... unless you have felt that dry wind.
You can't imagine.
I walked down the street one day and watched..
...flowers folding over and dying in real time.
As if a Fire Breathing Dragon in the Sky..
...was blowing down on West Hollywood.
And there was a fire two blocks away.
Up near the foothills of the mountains.
The fire was put out...
...not everyone's fire was put ou.
It was a bad Fire Season that year in the 1980s.

To be clear we are looking at the small center here.
Inside the larger huge cloud swirl.

It's all about the center.
Is this tropical?
No.
Is it subtropical?
Ish...
The pattern of these huge swirls.
And I use that term because..
..basically that's what they are.
The atmosphere swirls....
...it dances.
It moves in tandem with other swirls.
Other fronts and it flows.

Is this something to be named?
Only the NHC makes that call.

Currently it's at 50% as in "any minute"
It may be raised to 70%
Or it could get a name briefly.
We've seen this often this year.
Hurricane Season almost over.
Azore systems often get named.
At the discretion of the current regime at NHC
And they have been hot to trot with names.
Here's our wide view.

There is much more energy in our front over the SE.
Or moving over the SE.
Love the dotted line across the Atlantic.
It delineates the North Atlantic with the MDR.

Down below we have a parade of tropical waves.
West to East or trying.
I suppose because no one told them they couldn't.

In Raleigh it's raining this morning.
And I'm kind of loving it.
To be honest.

The constant pitter patter of raindrops.
It's been a while since we heard that.

A gentle reminder that there is still time...
...for a Caribbean system to form.
Gulf of Mexico or Home Grown.

Just because it's snowing in Colorado...
..doesn't mean it's not hot in the tropics.
In the 90s in Florida often.
Water in the Caribbean very hot.
Hot = favorable conditions.
So far we've been lucky.

As they say.
Nothing to track in this area.
But those are mighty strong rain cells.
Coming into the regular towns.
That often get tropical weather.
It's tropical....
But it's not organized.
Just rain.
Older map image but you get the idea.
Of how we got here.
Big news story today.

California could use some rain.
To quench the fires and
... let the power go back on.

I cannot imagine having my power turned off.
I had kids who used nebulizers for asthma.
When there is smoke in the air...
...asthma and bronchitis is a big issue.

You'd think they could think of another way.
As maintain the grid or the system.
Have thought of how to do this better...
.... and restore power to people who need.
Mind boggling.

Yeah California.
Lived there.
Earthquakes, Mudslides and Fires.
Pick your poison.
Everywhere has something.
Mother Nature finds a way.

And that's it.

I'll update if the NHC does.
Have a wonderful day!

Updated 11 PM 70% RED in GOM (OLGA??) ... N ATLANTIC GALE ... Front Brings Snow, Maybe Thundersnow & Mucho Rain For the South as it Hooks Up with our GOM System. Hushpuppies & Maple Bourbon Coffee. NC State Fair...

11 PM

70% Chances of development.
I went to the fair.
I haven't followed it much.
I walked everywhere.
I've had enough.
Going to bed but ....
... just putting this up now.

Getting there bit by bit.
What will we find tomorrow?

Models consistently take it to landfall.
But as a named system or TD?
Or merging with the front at landfall?

The picture below shows how close...
...the mega system is to coming together.
Another view below.

There is some consolidation tonight.
Is it enough for a name tomorrow?
Or TD status?
Think Hybrid ....

In Oklahoma it snowed today.
Woodward is prime Tornado Real Estate.

So pretty.
Amarillo got Thunderstorms.
Snow...

As for 97L
There's something going on there.
What will the NHC do in the morning?

I went to the fair.
The NC State Fair.
Love watching things spin.

I'm going to sleep.
Oh and incredible sunsets.

Sweet Tropical Dreams.
Keep reading if you didn't do so already!

3 PM
60% Orange for 97L

Regardless of what happens.
The nasty weather from the front is real.
This may become a Tropical Depression.
Short lived as many have been this year.
Olga if it gets a name.
But the name of the game is ...
The Cold Front.
And moist, tropical weather feeding it.
Creating a stronger front than otherwise.

You can see how the visible image above.
Matches up with the models below.

I'm going to the Fair.
The State Fair.
For all your 97L needs.
Please check out Spaghetti Models.

https://spaghettimodels.com/

I'll update way later.
Please read if you did not do so..
Again the 3 day loop is below.

I'll say one thing.
This most likely will not be the last GOM system.
To grab a ride with a front across the SE.
My question is later in the month...
as in BOO!
or early November.
Fronts will get further South.

It's just that time of year.
Everyone wants to say it's over.
But it's not over til Mother Nature..
..says it's over.

Keep reading if you did not already

10 AM view of 97L

So they reconsidered the situation.
And less than 2 hours after their 8 AM
They put out a special update.
Orange 50%
Invest 97L begins...

Note they mention "tropical depression" right off the bat.
So would expect this to happen....
...unless it suddenly collapses.

This always had a window of opportunity.
It was a short window.
97L has to make the most of it...
...and is doing so this morning.

Models below.

Many models at www.tropicaltidbits.com
Satellite loops too!

The reason they went with TD is...
...it's gonna have to do more than this.
But it is flirting with TS status.
So should next few model runs...
...match it's rapid blossoming.
It's a long shot but odds are going up.

Link to loop above image.

My candy cane satellite.
Much convection....
...approaching front above it.

I'll update later today...
....keep reading if you didn't.
It's still all valid.
Except we are not orange...
...no longer yellow.

(check out that wave by Africa..)
(I'm whispering ...wink wink)

hiatlsat_None_anim.gif (768×496)

Who are you?
Where do your eyes go first?
Do you watch that wave off of Africa.
Low and late in the season....
The big swirl in the North Atlantic?
Or colors showing in the Gulf of Mexico?
That's our mixed basket today.

We know what DaBuh is looking at ;)
Me too...
But officially check out the GOM
BOC today, GOM tomorrow.
It's a GOM system...
...making landfall.
You can watch in real time.
The front and the Invest!

atl_ir4_sat_tropicalindex_anim.gif (640×480)

30% Yellow Circle
Long shot Olga.
Unless Olga forms somewhere else...

(ya never know...what goes in 2019)

Mike has a plethora of loops and info..
Easy to use on your phone...
...take the tropics with you everywhere !!

I may design a purple shirt later today.
Lots of tee shirt options.

Picture of our area of curiosity above.

Video i made quick this morning ;)

Sipping Maple Bourbon Coffee with Pumpkin Spice Latte Creamer this morning as the man on Spectrum News is giving the weather for what to wear to the State Fair today. We definitely are deep in Fall in the Carolinas. In the Gulf of Mexico a moist, latent area of convection is going to blossom today and fantasize about getting a name as the Cold Front dips down towards it ...reaching out, grabbing it and zoom, zooming it away towards the Deep South. Slow enough to get some real rain, moving too fast to probably get a name. But it is tropical moisture and when tropical moisture meets up with a front that has an edge, trouble ensues. Stay tuned for that drama and watch the video below showing the next 3 days of stormy weather in the South.

allfcsts_loop_ndfd.gif (799×559)

When I was a little girl and obsessed with the weather maps in the newspaper I would always wonder why they do this switching back and forth game. Cold front dives down, then goes stationary, then a bit of a warm front develops and then WHAM the next stronger front dives down and blows them all out to sea and then in a few days.... they do the dance again. Being an intense sort of person I obviously thought all the fronts should DIVE DOWN and SWEEP DOWN INTO THE CARIBBEAN. And all hurricanes should move WNW until them slam into South Florida. Give me a break, I was young. The first time I lived in an apartment on Biscayne Bay and looked out my bedroom window the reality hit me.... "if we get a hurricane it would blow all of this away...." and I began to worry more than wish on them. From the relative safety of growing up further inland in Miami and later 4 blocks from the ocean on Miami Beach we told ourselves storm surge wouldn't be a problem. Once you have a water view from your bedroom it's a different story.

Enough about me .... but the reality is that is where most of the South is at this time of year. We keep looking South to see if some wayward, surprising system will form and we look longingly at those tweets of snow falling onto people's decks out in the Northwest somewhere and wish a bit harder the fronts get a bit stronger so we can wear our winter clothes and sip pumpkin spice latte and long for Thanksgiving to get a little bit closer! What are you longing for today? I have weather in the low 40s this morning, but by the time I go out... I won't need a sweater as the thermometer launches up towards the low 70s. Kind of like a strong, Miami cold front...but I'm in NORTH Carolina.

Note Sunday the rain begins to threaten...

And seriously look at how much rain is there.
How fast does it move?
Timing is everything here.
Whoa.... 30% Yellow.
Being monitored in the GOM

But that other area in the N Atlantic
Steals your attention.
Tomorrow the GOM system will steal it back.

That is an amazing North Atlantic Swirl.
Swell, System... Impressive.

So let's look at the tropics fast.
Definitely blossoming today.
Much more convection.
Intenser convection.
Congregating, waiting ...
...to be pulled North by the front.
When I say "North" I mean UP
Exact track of that remains to be seen.
But Mississippi and Tennessee...
Getting rain...

Compare and contrast the video above...
...with how it looked last night.

Note I called it a long shot.
A long shot of being OLGA.

Either way it will be...
..a hybrid sort of system.
Many faces of Olga or just ..
...rain, soaking rain.
With a touch of cooler weather.
We aren't getting Arctic Air yet!

But Colorado has snow...
...beautiful snow.
Rumors of an East Coast snow...
...are blowing in the wind.
The scent of hype and hysteria...
...is mixed with burning leaves and PSL.
And wishes for November snow.

I'd give the marginal snow for the East Coast..
..better chances than the long shot Olga.
But time will tell.

That's it for me.
I have big questions to deal with currently.

If you were going to get hush puppies.
Let's just pretend...
Would you get

(it has applesauce sauce on top with a glaze...)

A) Cheerwine ones?
or
B) Pumpkin Spice Latte ones?

Or would you just go for ICE CREAM?
From NC STATE Howling Ice Cream ;)

And that's it.
Check it out for yourself.

I'll update when we see what will be.
I wouldn't hold your breath for Olga.
But it's been an odd year naming wise.

And as for Amarillo...
...they may be getting Thundersnow.

Yes... Cantore is always dreaming of Thundersnow.
What are you dreaming of?

I'll update in real time.
Depending on how much time I have.
Have a wonderful day.

Oh and Cranky may Live Tweet soon.
So that's always entertaining!
