What's Going On In the Gulf of Mexico?

Big blow up there of moisture. I'm going to discuss it tomorrow in depth, but since I'm up and discussing it now with friends... it's worth mentioning.

Enh Infrared Satellite - GOES East Current

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/tatl/flash-rb.html

Put it in motion...almost seems to spin tonight, though I'm half asleep and may be imagining things.

No... not really unless this is a mass hallucination..

Models have been hinting at development of some sort of low for a while... the one off the Carolinas did form, Florida did get huge amounts of rain and more is on the way..

Also curious how it does tomorrow during the day...

Sweet Tropical Dreams,

Bobbi

Ps..Snow headed to Iowa it seems and other nearby places... what's headed towards the West Coast of Florida is a bigger question. Also, the EPAC starts in 15 days...there is already action down there and a lot of that early "energy" is blowing into the Carib..

Miami Rain... Record Rainfall, Flooding in Westchester, Coral Gables and Miami Beach

About 3 minutes before my brother called me from Coral Gables, dead in the water, near 57th Avenue due to wild, flooding Phil Ferro tweeted the following tweet! I had JUST retweeted when my brother texted me and then called.

Phil Ferro On Twitter:
"Rain soaked streets have lead to a Flood Advisory."

Note the wording, very good word usage here...correct in that they tried to slam the door after the proverbial horse floated by...

Seriously... this was predicted by many weather models and long range forecasts and yet... it seems to have caught everyone by surprise. I know...there are big issues out there. The HEAT and I don't mean the weather kind.. the draft by the Miami Dolphins... the question of where Tebow will land and what the JETS will do with their remaining FIVE quarterbacks... but hey it's almost May in Miami and that means rain, especially when old fronts die out and linger longer and lows develop at the tail end of dying fronts.

Pics from my brother:

and one from my old, iconic drug store on the corner of Bird Road at the edge of the Gables...

(Got my first copy of Cat's Cradle in there when I was really young and saw my first dust devil across the street where they would always form at the edge of the stores on the North Side of the street there)

My brother refused to get out of the car and take pictures... he drove slowly down the middle of the street. Down by US 1 at Publix the water in the parking lot was almost too high to drive, but hey.. a guys got to do what a guys got to do to get his lunchtime sushi...

Alfred Spellman, my friend and fellow Miami Beach local co-founder of rakontur and producer of Cocaine Cowboy fame, posted this picture on Twitter. A typical day in Miami Beach after a heavy rain. If you want a "sure bet" you can bet that Monad Terrace on Miami Beach will look like it's been reclaimed by Biscayne Bay. Maybe all that dredging of the land back when wasn't a great idea, but you would think 60 years plus after the 1920s they'd have figured out how to resolve the flooding problem.. but no... it goes on and on and on. From Lincoln Road to 8th or 9th Street it always looks like the land down under water... or as Alfred and my brother always call it "a 3rd World Republic"

Miami Beach: you cant be a first-class city when your streets look like a Third World capital after a brief storm. "

Embedded image permalink

If you live here tomorrow............it's probably gonna look a lot like the picture above if it rains again the way it did today. If you have to travel Indian Creek or Collins Avenue to the North...God help you.

That cute "point of land" was not there originally, it was fixed up for the creation of the Flamingo Hotel which was built by Carl Fisher who "smoothed out" and created more land to the west of Alton Road for his empire of bayside hotels in the 1920s. The original waterfront followed Alton Road before he extended it out a bit...in the same way he created those beautiful islands that you drive across on the Venetian Causeway.

Nice blog to read, great history there:

That's legendary Gar Wood's favorite speed boat "Baby Gar" which entertained the guests who would watch it race by in the bay...on sunny days..

Read up on Carl Fisher. There are books all over the place. Stop by Books and Books on Lincoln Road to learn more. He was our own sort of Gatsby, except he got the girl... for a while.....

Keeping in mind the hurricane season, they also said this was the most rain reported in some sites since 1945. You connect the dots... with the 1945 hurricane season and this coming year and be aware that 1945 was a banner, wet, crazy year for Miami as tropical weather came at it from every direction:

2013 Hurricane Season is a mere month away gang, you can't let time get away from you. Now is the time to prepare, plan and figure out what you would do and where you would go in case of a hurricane. If you don't believe it can happen to you... it can. Andrew happened, Sandy happened... there are plenty more named storms where those two came from...

Winter Won't Let Go -- I 95 RAIN

Been raining steady in the Carolinas for the last 24 hours, though the real rain came in late in the day and has not let up. I fell asleep last night, after a very busy Sunday, to steady, heavy rain pouring down. Woke up to heavy, steady rain falling. I'm a little worried the new rose bush might have washed away...

The high was 62 degrees here, I wore little furry, white boots to an "indoor" BBQ meaning we all sat inside on a nice "sun porch" while the food was cooked out on a BBQ that had some partial shelter from the rain. Good food, good friends, good rain... but cold. And, I keep wondering how that will factor in to this year's "start" and well time will tell.

Look at that rain across I95. Glad we aren't driving north or south today...

Now... look at the next few days.  Snow........ go figure and lot's of it!

And that cold weather WILL be moving East. Glad we are not driving out West and that snow better let up soon as I know some kids who will be doing that drive soon.

The reason I was in Raleigh, was because it was very rainy at the Beach yesterday, cold and rainy and I had a wedding to go to and do in the end... we will take a "rain check" on the beach.

In Miami Beach it's gonna rain and rain off and on for days I think. Nothing that odd for May, but still is this a stationary front stalled out "rain" or the "monsoons" and I think it's a front... Spring Rain so to speak.

Note the area off the coast of Melbourne into the Bahamas..

Forecast in

Everyone is talking on 2004 and 2005 so I keep wondering on those years.

Note Alex started late at the END of July in the area we have been watching for some quasi sub-tropical storm this week.

File:Alex 2004 track.png

An old front, stalled out... the energy got trapped down below and the water was warm enough for Alex to form as he moved back to the north very, very slowly hugging the coastline of the Carolinas before going the distance out to sea in the distant North Atlantic. The difference being this year it feels still like winter and that was in late July and there was a tropical wave that ran off with the lingering, frontal trough!

July...not May.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Atlantic_hurricane_season#Hurricane_Alex

A good site with lots of into of those 2000 seasons that people have been watching is linked below from Intellicast. Back in the day...when I first went online to play tropical weather games it was one of my favorite sites to go to and am talking way back on AOL ;)   A lot of great sites now, but they do a good job and it's a jam packed site. Always good to blend the old with the new and stay afresh of new places to hang out while watching and waiting for the season to get rolling.

http://www.intellicast.com/Storm/Summary/Hurricane2004.aspx

What will 2013 be like? Don't know. Time will tell... but for now winter won't let go...

So for now.... bundle up and keep watching.. unless you live in South Florida where you are going to have to duck out of the rain for days..

Could A Sub--Tropical Storm Develop Near Florida Next Week?

Would, could... should? Is it possible? Yeah, it's possible. Will it develop? Don't know, but it's possible and the set up might support development. Models show "something" developing as it moves over Florida from the Gulf and meets up with a tropical energy that has been lingering there and develops into an official Low off the East Coast of Florida. Then.......it moves to the "right" either out to sea or up along the coast. If it develops and if it moves NE towards the Cape then it would wind up tight off the coast of North Carolina.

A whole lot of "IFS" if you ask me, then again if you had those "IFS"  you would run right out to the local grocery story and buy up the lotto tickets real fast..

Funny how odds work like that. Low, barely there chance in the tropics of development and everyone thinks it's a long shot. If you were giving a 5% chance of winning the local lotto..you'd buy more than a just $1 ticket.

The Atlantic has been fun to watch this past week, keep watching it for something to possibly happen next week.

The Mumbo Jumbo out of NWS Melbourne is below, and by the way...their mumbo jumbo tropical style is one of the best to watch:

"TUE-FRI...MIDDLE TO LATTER PART OF NEXT LOOKING INCREASINGLY WET AND
PERHAPS UNSETTLED. AMPLIFYING NORTHERN STREAM H50 TROUGH WILL KICK
ITS POS TILT PREDECESSOR SEWD ACROSS THE ERN GOMEX AND FL. SOME BIG
DIFFERENCES IN THE RESPONSE AT THE SURFACE AS THE RESULTANT PRESSURE
FALLS WILL BE DEPENDENT ON THE EXTENT AND ORGANIZATION OF THE MID
LEVEL TROUGH (CUTOFF LOW?) THAT MOVES OVERHEAD. THE 26/00Z GFS IS
WEAKER AND MORE PROGRESSIVE WITH THE SURFACE AND MID LEVEL FEATURES
COMPARED TO THE NEW ECM. THE LATTER`S SOLUTION IS OBVIOUSLY MUCH
MORE OMINOUS FOR THE FL EAST COAST...AS IT SHOWS A H50 CUTOFF OVHD
ABOUT 60M DEEPER...ALONG WITH A MUCH STRONGER (SUB-1000MB) SURFACE
LOW CENTER WHICH DROPS SSE RIGHT ALONG THE FL EAST COAST. THIS SOLN
WOULD BATTER THE NE FL COAST AND EVENTUALLY THE ENTIRETY OF THE FL
ATLC COAST WITH VERY STRONG N-NE FLOW FRI THROUGH SAT.

ESPECIALLY WORRISOME IS THE FACT THAT THE ECM HAS SHOWN A GENERAL
SOLUTION OF STRONGER SRN STREAM ENERGY (ALBEIT NOT QUITE TO THIS
EXTENT) FOR SEVERAL RUNS IN A ROW...AND IT USUALLY PERFORMS QUITE
WELL OVER THE CONUS. SUFFICE IT TO SAY...WE`LL BE KEEPING A CLOSE
EYE ON HOW THE MODEL GUIDANCE TRENDS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.
FOR NOW...HAVE SIDED WITH A MORE CONSERVATIVE SOLUTION WHICH SHOWS
CONTINUED INCREASE IN RAIN CHANCES THROUGH THU"

 BOBBI'S BOTTOM LINE:

Keep watching, only time will tell ...
but it's possible, very possible. Either way it's gonna be real wet
and read windy early next week off the East Coast of Florida
if the NWS forecast verifies!

In other news... the same strong frontal system that may ultimately tango with the tropical moisture could seriously bring snow to a large swath of the country. Again, late season cold fronts with high pressure to the north and warm water in the Tropics with inflow from the south rushing in to meet a vacuum of sorts often causes early season, semi, quasi.. sort of sub-tropical storms.

Either way the front moving across the country will keep weather watchers and chasers busy this coming week!

Hurricane Season ... Less than 40 Days Away... Watching Atlantic

I know it snowed at a baseball game, but that's out west and these days I am looking East. Look at the cluster of storms called a "Tropical Wave" that comes flying off of Africa ...too low and too early to do anything of value other than to note that it is there. And, more will follow as each climbs a bit higher in latitude and moves West towards our neck of the woods over warmer than normal water temperatures!

Warm temps I say?

Yup. Especially in the breeding ground for late May and early June storms:

Hey I could wax poetic about the snow on the baseball diamond that had to be brushed away to play the game last night or I could discuss twister possibilities in Texas, but that's not why I am here today.

Today, this morning, I am here to point out to y'all that.............things are going to heat up fast this coming Hurricane Season of 2013 and I do believe the Gulf Coast from say Mobile Bay to the Big Bend of Florida could easily see an early storm. For that matter... I wouldn't rule out the area from Texas to Mobile. Too many cold fronts that will fall apart down there and too many west bound waves with a trace of energy moving west low down into the Caribbean hooking up with a continual heat source down south of Cuba that will breed an early "A" storm.

ALMA 1966

File:Almajune121966.jpg

From Wikipedia: "During June 1966, low atmospheric pressure stretched across the western Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico—a pattern that is conducive for tropical cyclogenesis. During the first few days of the month, a dissipating trough extended from the southeastern United States into the western Caribbean. A mid-level circulation developed along the trough near Cabo Gracias a Dios on June 3. By the next day, the circulation had reached the surface,[1] which marked the development of a tropical depression over eastern Nicaragua. On June 5, the depression crossed Honduras and emerged into the western Caribbean, moving north-northeastward through an area of warm sea surface temperatures. It had a good cyclonic circulation, convection, and moisture content, but most significantly, a passing trough to the north provided the depression with favorable outflow.[1][2] On June 6, the depression rapidly intensified into Tropical Storm and later Hurricane Alma.[2] This made it the earliest hurricane in the basin since Hurricane Able in 1951.[3]"

Does that sound familiar?

File:Alma 1966 track.png

2005:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Arlene_(2005)

File:Arlene 11 june 2005 1645Z.jpg

"Early in the season — nearly two months earlier than the first storm formation in 2004 — a low-pressure area formed and persisted north of Honduras. Despite significant shear, the low managed to become Tropical Depression One on June 8 just north of Honduras.[1] The depression began to head north towards western Cuba that day, but as it was a very large and poorly organized system under the influence of heavy shear, the official forecasts from the National Hurricane Center emphasized that the route the storm would take was uncertain.[2] Despite this uncertainty, the official forecasts were highly accurate in predicting the storm's track."

familiar??

1968 Abby...
File:Arlene 2005 track.png
Reason it formed? Warm Water.
Reason it moved north... pulled up, sucked up by a late season cold front.

File:Abby 1968 track.png

And, let us never forget the mixed up, messy track of Alice in 1953! Late May/Early June Storm:

File:Alice 1953 track.png

One of the problems with years like this, when the weather is a bit bi-polar and we have a lot of extremes on the map... they somehow provide the spark for these early June systems in years that tend to be active as this season has already been predicted to be..

Note 2005 and was originally predicated to be "slightly above average" and then was upgraded to "very active" and in retrospect was VERY,  VERY ACTIVE.  Years like 2005 don't get repeated often, but it has been mentioned by many as an analog year for 2013!

Some statistics on June storms written a few years back, but still very relevant by the very smart and wonderful Ken Kaye at the Sun Sentinel ..

http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/news/weather/hurricane/blog/2010/05/june_hurricane_is_possible_but.html

So, keep watching the tropics and for now be aware we really aren't "sure" which way the wind blows with La Nina or El Nino or if it will be a "Neutral" year. This past winter we had relatively warm weather across most of the US with very little snow. And, then ...something happened. The Switch got flipped and starting in Early February Winter Went Wild and hasn't let go so far..

The ground hog came out, looked around...went inside and turned the "winter switch" on and hasn't been seen since...

Winter is waning, but the cold fronts that will continue to come and weaken will lay draped across the Gulf of Mexico down into the Carib where the water is warm and they could provide just the vitamins this hurricane season needs to produce some shocking scenarios for the Gulf Coast States!

Fire, Floods and Snow... Winter Won't Let Go...

Firefighter battles a blaze in Monrovia.

In Monrovia California they were dealing with forest fires up in the canyons north of LA. Happens, happens often up there every so many years. You just never know where the fires in California will break out... this year here, next year there.  Beautiful part of the world up there... nice views when the air is clean.. up above the City...

Along the river the snows are melting, the rains have fallen and the rivers are swollen.

Floods are horrible. The cities of Clarksville and Alton have both dealt with waiting for the river to crest.

http://www.kmov.com/news/local/Crests-approaching-in-several-towns-in-Midwest-203982061.html

You see the Missouri River flows into the Mississippi River and they meet just north of St. Louis. In years when flooding is a problem this is often Ground Zero.

Up to the North due to SNOW... and winter weather from TWC's Winter Storm ZEUS..the Miami Marlins game against the Twins was cancelled...for now... a Snow Out I suppose?

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/marlins-twins-game-postponed-day-175835226--mlb.html

The Weather Channel hit pay dirt this year, by picking a year to name storms when they came on slowly but then strong and they refuse to go...

http://www.weather.com/news/weather-winter/winter-storm-zeus-20130422

Of course... we should be dealing with Twisters and Thunderstorms and yet we are still shivering and wishing Winter would just let go.

In the Carolinas it was warm... fuzzy, warm and it felt like summer and then........WINTER makes a come back.

It's cold by my standard... in the 30s and 40s at night.

But, oh...the Azalea are so beautiful in the sunlight and the Dogwood are holding on despite the wicked storm we had last Friday evening.

So..................keep watching... eventually Spring will make a return.. and we less than six weeks until the start of the Hurricane Season.

Ps... we are all Red Sox fans this week. And, this past week has seemed like a lifetime..

Suspect Believed Down in Watertown... Strong Line of Severe Wxr Raced Through Here

Suspect believed down in Watertown ....   waiting on a robot to go in and see if there are any explosives on his body and waiting to find out if he is...or isn't dead.

Also worth noting a "foreign government" asked the FBI to check out the subject who died last night as someone with connections to radical terror...  like to know more on that and can imagine who that "foreign government" was.........

"ALIVE and surrounded and still moving"

Meanwhile... the line of storms that just came through Raleigh brought down trees, had strong sustained gusts of 47 and 55 mph in my neighborhood. I could barely open the door... it was being sucked out, leaves were flying off of trees and moving up into the sky in small circles. Like something out of a movie.

Damage reports are coming in... www.wral.com for your best news on local weather always!

Life is right now like something out of the movie...  here in Raleigh with the sound of the wind and on TV where the drama of terrorism in Boston being played out... and waiting to see if he is going to be taken dead or alive.......

And... am going off here for Shabbos...

Everyone say a prayer that this is indeed over......and that there are no more suspects or accomplices that also might be a problem.

It's not over... until it's over...

Note...this is barely 2 blocks from the original event... super crazy, nuts...

Stay safe and pray..

Good Shabbos

Family of Suspect Interviewed by the Press... Tornado Watch Issued...

Uncle of the suspect:

Ruslan Tsarni in Montgomery County pleads for the suspect to turn himself in and to ask forgiveness. He passionately defends fellow Chenyians who work hard in America ... a land he passionately loves. Angry, upset and disgusted... incredible video shown live on TV of the interview. Says he has not seen them in over five years... spoke to their father who is his brother 3 months ago.

Aunt of the suspect:

In an very honest interview she said... when kids are older and independent they do what they want to do and ....she is sooooo right.  She helped bring the suspect now on the run and his parents over in April of 2002. A defensive posture more than the uncle's interview but very detailed and honest.

Both impassioned. Both compelling.

Where is the child of the now dead suspect and the mother of his child?
Don't know..............

The parents are said to be in Russia...

Several other siblings are in Russia...

There is a girlfriend... half Portuguese and half Italian who has recently converted to Muslim..
Where is she??

Friends interviewed on campus are as always deeply shocked.
Never saw it coming....

Younger one now on the run... everyone seems shocked.
Captain of his team.. kind... quiet... said funny things... a good friend to many.

Older Dead Brother ...
No one seems to have much to say.
Became "religious" 2 years ago..something changed.
Not many friends, focused on his sports..
Was out of the country about six months ago.. probably in Russia..
no one is sure of much..

His younger brother ran over his lifeless body during his escape..

This whole story is like something out of a TV show...
...and we will know more eventually..

Twitter site online seems to be..suspect on the run.

Got to wonder if the post on his Twitter Site is a coded message..
was sent to "Jahar" on his Twitter page...

(note 40 minutes ago he condemned the bombings... a few days late if you ask me)

Crazy world, normal world... crazy is normal, boring is rare.

If you live anywhere in the Boston area... listen to the police and stay indoors and stay safe!
Sit tight...

A primer on the problems of Chechen Terrorism

On a weather note... I think someone's gonna get weather tonight. It's windy out of the South here... above 80 degree temperatures. The wind chimes sound like the Aunt's house in Twister before the Twister hit.

Stay safe and keep watching the news and the weather...

Ps... quick note... things heating up in the EPAC...

Boston: "Shelter in Place" . One Suspect Dead.... LIVE GUN BATTLE ON TV NOW... Developing

DEAD.....................

A manhunt for the two brothers who are the suspects in the Boston Bombing has shut down Boston. One brother is dead, the other is missing and at large, extremely dangerous.

Woke up this morning, like most people, trying to figure out what is going on.

What is going on is that the MIT shooting WAS connected.

I'll update more later.

For now the hunt goes on, we can put together the pieces of the puzzle later.

Suspect ALIVE and WANTED below.

The name of the suspect that was killed is below and note info is still coming in...the name is also spelled different ways... this is one spelling. The situation is fluid.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev

He is said to have been born in Kyrgyzstan. according to his personal info.. possibly wrong.
Where is that you wonder?

Far away...

New England Golden Gloves Winner trying to get a spot on the Olympic Team as a Boxer?

The younger brother was a champion wrestler.

It's all too early to say what is for sure, but the facts will continue to come in..

One thing I can say is some of the most brutal, heinous terrorist attacks have been made in Russia by Chechen Rebels. Some of the worst terror attacks in schools, public places, crowded places..

More info...this is developing..

Be aware if these brothers have been here for a while... a $2,500 scholarship to an expensive school does not support them in the country. They have family, they have connections... this story has so many legs it's not going away quickly.

The FBI is currently talking to relatives... many people with that last name live in other areas... DC, Maryland... Washington, North Carolina... some could be related ... OR NOT. Just saying .. just because we don't know the details doesn't mean the FBI  knows a lot and they are doing a great job if you ask me piecing it together and trying to keep it under control and focused.

Botton line...

One suspect is dead.
One MIT Security officer is dead.
Another officer is in surgery
There is an active hunt going on in Boston..

If you live in Boston or it's suburbs... you are to stay inside and do what is called: "shelter in place"

A gun fight is going on currently in Watertown, MA. on TV.  Possibly a house or a relative or who kows...this story evolves by the moment.

The WEATHER is cool and not a problem for the manhunt that is currently going on in the Boston area.

Stay safe... besos Bobbi

Ps a friend asked me... based on the given birthdate of the brother who is alive and being hunted down the astrological chart is below.   Based on info that could be wrong... a lot could be wrong. The place of birth given for their entry into the US could be wrong. The chart was done for sunrise in Boston, it's just to see aspects.

FBI Posts Suspects in Boston Bombing.... Death Toll Climbs in Texas... Severe Weather Moves East

These are the official pictures the FBI has posted requesting help from anyone who may have seen them or have information about them.

More chilling than pictures are the words that Jeff Bauman wrote as soon as he regained consciousness.  He saw the man drop the bag at his feet... shortly before the bomb exploded and his legs were torn off of his body. His awareness in such a traumatic moment is chilling, compelling and traumatic just to read and yet his memory of such a moment in time... may be the memory that helped solve this case.

"Minutes before the bombs blew up in Boston, Jeff Bauman looked into the eyes of the man who tried to kill him.
"Just before 3 p.m. on April 15, Bauman was waiting among the crowd for his girlfriend to cross the finish line at the Boston Marathon. A man wearing a cap, sunglasses and a black jacket over a hooded sweatshirt looked at Jeff, 27, and dropped a bag at his feet, his brother, Chris Bauman, said in an interview.
Boston Bombing Victim in Iconic Photo Helped Identify Attackers
The man in the blue running suit in the pictures seen around the world online called home or rather called the Boston authorities and told them he didn't do it. Good idea.

Salah Eddine Barhoum, seen on his Facebook page, was wrongly accused of being a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing.
Image from his Facebook....   image below seen online by millions on the Web.

Nice to know that mystery has been solved.  Shame the FBI didn't go through with their press conferences yesterday and why I wonder? Did it solve their purpose for people to think they were looking for these men... vs the images of the men released today?

Please go to www.fbi.gov and view the pictures. IF you have any information please contact the FBI as that is what they have asked.

I'm not going to complain that people have been trying to view images online. They said today that no piece of information no matter how small or seemingly inconsequential should be overlooked.
1-800-CALL-FBI
Do not approach them...contact the FBI with any information you think you may have...

In Texas... the death toll is rising. Thirty... Thirty Five maybe.. no one is sure. It's depressing, sad.. and mind boggling to imagine that one minute you are watching TV and the next moment your life has imploded and been blown away. Very sad.. I'd rather watch the weather... it's really just so sad and only so much you can say that hasn't been said but to pray for the people of West, Texas.

Stay tuned, sleep tight and hang in there...  the FBI knows plenty, they want more info.. more pictures from people taking pictures who now know what they looked like... or where they may have gone after the massacre in Boston.
Sweet tropical dreams... dream of beautiful things tonight, try to not worry... try not to hold onto images that upset you...oh... if only everything could only be alright in the morning..

Bobbi
