Winter Vacation on the East Coast Ending Soon. Holidays Happiness. 70 Degrees in Raleigh today? YAY Chanukah Present: I can wear sandals?
Just a short note here to say the weather has definitely gone wild this winter. In Raleigh I'm loving the lack of a winter coat and there are days I don't even do boots just leggings. But, that will change soon enough.
Hawaii had snow in December yet ski resorts had to close elsewhere. It's a see saw weather pattern going on for now. Weather turns like the wheel around and around. Soon your turn will come.
Christmas snow in Arizona.
The East Coast waits and wonders when...
It's coming to the NE.
Texas might get something too maybe.
A weak sort of front but it's on the move
I'll write long on the storm impacts this weekend.
#winterwinning High Temperatures in the SE for a day... then poof, winter returns!
There's an illusion going on in parts of the SE of winter retreating and summer coming back faster than Santa on a Harley. It's an illusion guys.... winter is winning. I'm using the Hashtag #winterwinning currently. I believe I made it up so if you see it around just know where it came from...
Winter is winning.
It's gaining on us every day in every way!
But in a year when no one is sure on La Nina...
Perhaps it's a Neutral year?
Waiting to see what plays out.
This year has been sort of crazy.
Jason says it was this warm in Virginia.
I wasn't there I can't say.
I have the windows wide open in NC though...
I have a friend in Augusta who wants to put on the AC.
She better stop debating it on Facebook and do it fast.
Soon she will need the heat again.
My kids drove back to sunny Florida.
We went out last night to Glenwood South in Raleigh.
Busy despite the cold weather.
And it was cold last night.
Scotch and a fire pit with the kids at Cornerstone.
They had the out door heaters on.
This morning the boots came off...
No coat. Windows open.
And now the wind is changing.
No longer is it coming in fast from the South.
So long illusions of summer.
Welcome back Winter!
Love the discussion from the NWS
"A sharp arctic cold front will push south across our region"
Cooler air is filtering in again already.
Love their honesty.
"Depending on your model of choice"
We may have some issues weather wise.
I may close the windows.
Looks like rain soon!
Turn off the ceiling fan...
Put the heavy blanket back on the bed.
Monday will be messy in NC....
..and SC and Georgia.
Florida gets rain too!
Except for Miami... maybe.
Yeah... it's that time of year.
So I'm gonna wrap up my presents.
Try not to eat to many chocolate Chanukah gelt (coins)
Go back on my diet, exercise, dance.
(Jalapeno Donuts at Solas ...)
And watch and wait for winter weather to descend.
It will. Because winter is winning.
And El Nino?
Time will tell!
Desperado may not be able to make up his mind.
But Mother Nature isn't playing games!
Maybe head games ...but she's got the wild card ;)
Cold Roller Coaster Ride From Mother Nature. Wind Chills Feel Like Arctic Vacation.
The story in some places today is the WIND.
I've been told my Grandkids went to school wearing 2 coats ;)
Yes they have school, cold but no snow.
Baby it's cold out there would be an understatement but it's not news to anyone with a smart phone or who lives on a steady diet of TWC as if it's the latest Starbucks Seasonal Latte. But this week many parts of the East Coast get an array of different weather all within the same few days. Pick your favorite from the menu and hide in bed for the day you don't like. Note the sub zero temperatures on the WIND CHILL map above. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Starbucks delivered? In Raleigh the temperature tonight is diving down to 17 in my area, but it will be 70 on Sunday. There's a chance of fog, freezing rain and warm rain all thrown in to the same forecast. What a menu Mother Nature if serving this week!
If you are still drinking frappes you must be in Miami.
In the Nation's Capital it's a cold day in December.
In the Great Lakes area there is snow.
Buffalo is back in the white stuff again.
As is Cleveland where my friend's kids had a snow day.
But it's the roller coaster feel of this that's the problem.
People don't have a chance to acclimate.
They get sick easier.
Brrr and then huh?
There's a place up here called Carowinds.
Summertime, camp trips, family trips.
They have a roller coaster.
This week in NC is much like that roller coaster.
I posted that earlier this week on Twitter.
The discussion from the NWS this morning...
...says just that. A roller coaster ride.
Luckily on Sunday we will be near 70 degrees.
You can't say the weather is boring this year!
Note even New York City warms up to 60 degrees!
Pick your days to venture outside if you can...
...if you can't then well wear 2 coats!
Or as a friend of mine said on Facebook ;)
You might want to put on that long underwear ...
As for me my two youngest kids drove in from Miami last night.
No not for the weather ... NC State Graduation.
My little Wolfpack is home :)
...here to celebrate a best friends graduation.
The youngest son drove in with her to touch base.
So I'll be doing Starbucks while he is here!
As for you....
Stay warm and follow the NWS.
Note that weather in the West will be heading East.
As I cover Hurricane Country I rarely mention Western Weather.
Polar Vortex Returns? It's Called WINTER! A Blast of Winter. Preview For 2016 - 2017 Winter!
That's how the sky looked this morning in Raleigh.
Beautiful in a cold, quiet way.
The satellite imagery shows this blanket of clouds well.
Across most of the United States Winter is making an early appearance. Some might say winter is right on time as winter often plays peek a boo well before the Winter Solstice. The last few years winter laid low and people in Chicago actually complained there was no snow. No one will say that this year! Chicago has had snow, NYC has had snow and New England is well New England. Only the South is dreaming of snow. And, I'm pretty sure someone will soon see snow in the South. It's only a matter of time. However, the media is all over this recent appearance of winter with coming attractions of the Return of the Polar Vortex!! Apparently you don't even have to go on Netflix it will find you soon enough....
So today's post is about the much rumored "BLAST" of ARCTIC AIR coming down by way of the POLAR VORTEX!! I saw this online today. Seriously? Let's all get a grip here........
It's called WINTER. Winter is back in town, deal with it and stop the hysterics. I know TWC has storm names. Decima ??? Okay, TWC is officially tracking their latest winter storm....
A blast denotes it being FAST as in it rhymes with blast.
A fast, blast of cold air.
A passing, fast, blast of cold air.
Let's look at Raleigh, NC.
So it could be 18 degrees on Friday morning.
Then on Sunday it will be near 70 degrees.
Totally makes sense.
This is that in between time of year.
I finally understand Carolina.
People can taste winter.
Pretend they have a winter.
Then a few days later it's not that bad again.
People say Raleigh weather is Bi-Polar.
And that's because the Polar Vortex only flirts with us.
Floridians love to move here and "enjoy" the "seasons"
Of course they could be hiding from Alligators..
I so get hiding from Gators personally!!
Yeah, explains the people moving up to Raleigh from Florida.
And they get to taste a little bit of winter :)
The reality is it's a COLD FRONT.
A fast moving cold front.
A blast from the Arctic.
Frozen kisses moving South.
Then retreating again until next time...
Winter in the Great Lakes is well.. WINTER.
Winter doesn't take a holiday.
For the rest of us . . . winter comes and winter goes.
You buy in and are happy when you get lucky with 69 degrees.
Snow in the North.
Storms in the South.
Looks normal to me.
Take a look at this screen shot from Spaghetti Models.
Notice the water temperature sites on the far left?
The warm red and orange colors are gone.
Winter weather moves down near the Mason Dixie Line.
There's FOG across parts of the SE
The Mason Dixie Line is a Meteorological reference.
The war between the North and South is over.
But it remains the boundary of Northern Winter..
..and the Southern Winter.
Up North people pray it stops snowing.
Down South kids pray for it to snow just a little even.
Great Divide in mind sets.
I was at the gym this morning. I did a hard routine that had moments of ballet movements mixed with yoga and stretch. Usually I come out of there so warm that I don't want to wear a sweater let alone a jacket. This morning I walked out into the gray, cold, damp air that felt way colder than it really was in fact. If you asked me I'd have thought it was close to freezing and yet it was 48 degrees. I mean damp, cold, bitter to the bone. I wished I had gloves!! I never want to have gloves . . .
A song from one of my favorite Willie CDs.
Jimmy Buffett is all about summer.
Willie Nelson knows winter.
I call this picture Winter Dreams.
I took it today by the golf course.
If ya want to know what the Winter Dreams reference is...
...here's a free rendition of the short story by F Scott Fitzgerald.
Many say it was a prelude to the Great Gatsby.
Perhaps it should be named "Dreams on Being Gatsby"
If you are looking for a Jimmy Buffett song.
He wrote this one... reference to a short story by Scott.
Hope whatever you dream of you find soon.
@bobbistorm on Twitter
I'm pretty sure you might find snow if you live up north ;)
If you don't want to see snow...
Fly South to Florida!!!
No earthquakes in Florida :)
2 in NC this week.
Well up in the mountains.
Near Asheville, NC
I know weather people love geology...
That's where Scott put Zelda away once upon a time....
