Hurricane Hanna Steals the Award for 1st Hurricane of 2020. Gonzalo is Gone and No One Wants to Talk About It. Invest 92L Expected to be the I Storm Soon. Another Hurricane .. .Definitely Really Hurricane Season 2020 Now.

Check that out.
A real hurricane front and center at the top of the page.
Well developed storm all in all.
Oh and that red baloon on the bottom is trouble.
Gonzo is gone.
Poof!

Hurricane Hanna is currently moving slowly into Texas after making two landfalls today as it intensified before landfall and amped up it's energy delivering a surprising punch to the Texas coastal towns. The video on TWC was excellent today, I'll say that and I'm sure they will show the floating propane tank for quite a while. And, as I said a few times this week I did feel it was possible that Hanna would ramp up on approach to land and steal the crown away from Gonzalo that was over hyped and never lived up to his forecast. Gonzalo did do Trinidad. In truth Gonzo did what everyone thought it would do and acted more like a Tropical Wave than a Tropical Storm. Hanna wins the award for the first hurricane of the year and now we look towards Invest 92L to get named sooner rather than later it seems. The NHC has it at 80% barely 24 hours after making it an Invest so that seems fast tracked to be the center of our attention for quite a while now.

This is so big that it knocked Corona...
...and the Election off the main page.

Models Saturday Night.

That's bucking for Hurricane Status...

And I just want to point out one thing.
I mentioned it on Twitter a few times.
That area East of Florida has my attention.
Not expecting it to develop.

The NHC descibes what it is below.
As people know I love Upper Level Lows.
So I've been watching this tango dance.

I do think it's possible that we will have a storm there.
A lot depends on the High.
And a small low that forms near the Carolinas.
So watch 92L because it's not Gonzo.

In case you wondered ... this is NOW officially the Hurricane Seasons. We had a Hurricane in Texas and a Hurricane headed towards Hawaii and are forecast to have another named storm moving west with  models showing dire problems for someone along the East Coast ... unless of course the models are wrong. I'll go full on models tomorrow, just sitting here Saturday night catching my breathe and catching up on the tropics.

More to talk about Sunday ...

Ps... as for Gonzalo I'll say this. The problem with Gonzalo was not his inability to live up to his forecast discussion, it was an inability to properly forecast a small system that was like one long traveling tropical wave in a sea of dust and marginal water temperatures. All in all it was impressive it made it that far under those conditions. At least he gave it a shot. Will he be resurrected somewhere else? I'm pretty sure if he did come back to life they would issue a new Invest and hope not to talk on him again anytime soon. Not every small struggling tropical wave becomes Hurricane Dorian and that's a good thing.
