Quiet in the Tropics Now. Count 7 to 10 Days. We Will Have a Named Storm. EPAC Hot. ATL Not. Beautiful Wave Coming Off Africa.
Starting with this wave over Africa.
It has potential to develop.
But will it?
Watching.
NHC says nothing will develop for the next 7 days. That doesn't mean waves and other weather anomalies cannot begin to spin or get a "look" that could develop in a week's time or so. A week from today is August 30th so September is literally around the corner. The MJO is also around the corner, playing in the Pacific and due to move into our part of the world. Generally, but not always, action in the tropics pick up in activity in concert with the arrival of a MJO. As this occurs when action is most expected in September, if nothing forms then there are many questions to be asked as to why it has been quiet when many expected August to be busy.
This image above shows many things
The High is huge.
ITCZ is suppressed to the South.
Waves a bit lower than they were.
A trough dangles near the Bahamas.
A cold front cleared the Carolinas.
Looking closer in ... is worth a look
That area is festering.
In a spot that's hot and welcoming.
Near the Bahamas, from an old frontal boundary.
In theory it'll fade away soon.
EPAC busy.
Count a week to tend days.
Atlantic will be busy.
Maybe models are missing something.
Maybe models are right.
But there will be weather.
Either way and that is ......
..what this is about.
Weather in the Tropics.
That's a lot of weather close in.
Both in GOM and FL Straits.
Surprise pop up systems....
...pop up in areas such as these.
Watching...
And over by Africa.
A kick ass wave caught my eye.
It has a look.
We will see soon nuff.
Have a good weekend.

Love love love your blog. Will you explain the term "wave" for weather coming across ATL? I thought it was an ocean wave that you could hypothetically surf on, but that doesn't fit with waves coming off Africa. Is it actually rain storms, high up in the sky, one right after another that is coming in waves? I have learned so much from you and appreciate the time and effort you put into keeping us informed.
