UPDATED 11 PM MAJOR HURRICANE AGAIN....Most Written Earlier Around 10 PM Added in 11 PM Data. MY Thoughts on Landfall. Deadly Hurricane Dorian Moves UP Along the Coast.. Landfall Can Happen Along SC NC Coast .. A Bit About ME and the ONLINE COMMUNITY. We are here to HELP & INFORM YOU To PREPARE YOU - Knowledge is Power. NHC Doing Great Job Follow Their Cone

pie_None_anim.gif (768×496)

MAJOR CAT 3 HURRICANE.
Slowing down a bit.
North at 7 MPH

Adding in this map I showed below.
But larger here.
NC has 3 capes.

It's called Cape FEAR for a reason...
Most Southernmost Cape.
South of Wilmington.
Could Dorian come in to the South of there.
Yes it could... might.
All about timing.
A bit of dry air on the N side.
Feeding into Dorian.
Otherwise Dorian looks very good.

Close up of the eye.

Current radar out of Charleston SC

Eye visible moving North at 7 MPH.
Speed and timing are everything here.

This is me thinking out loud.
Watching the WV Loop.
Down in NC means "Down East"
As in where most hurricanes make landfall.
It's being pushed just a drop East.
Dorian has gone from 79.8 W to 79.6W
It may not seem like a lot but it's a trend.
And a trend is good if it's away from the coast.

Cranky is a Map Artist.

I'm not Cranky.
I don't draw maps.
I write, I analyze and communicate.
Everyone asks if I'll do a video.......
...I prefer not to but needed to show the WV LOOP
In a way you understand how it's studied.
How I use it and why I say...
... I think the timing is off to avoid a landfall.
Or at least the eye touches land.
Or goes inland......

An hour ago... pretty much same North slow movement.
But now it's 115 MPH.
Stronger.

Not forecast to stay strong.
NHC says shear will appear and weaken it some.
Talking on strong Cat 2 on landfall most likely.
I'm saying landfall NHC says it's possible.

NHC has it's closest approach South of Wilmington

Looking back note...
 That barometric pressure dropping.
It was 964 around 5PM I believe.
Then 958 MB.
Now 955 MB
Winds will come up eventually.
Eye shape shifting again.

Looking like a Major Cat 3 Hurricane.

Does it make actual landfall?

I have an old cork board hurricane tracking map.
Haven't used it in ages...
...but since I've been tracking by hand.
Keeping cords and notes.
Decided to try and use it.
Man it's not easy...
...but it does give you a different feel.

It would have to make a very sharp NE to ENE move...
...to miss the Carolinas.

Note FL has an angled coast.
it's a softer angle.
Easier to trace.
But Carolinas is sharp.
Why Wilmington and OBX get hit so often.
But hurricanes make landfall further South too.
It's rare for hurricane winds to go deep into Carolinas.
Flooding is usually the problem.
So I finally drew a map tonight.
Over some recon info.

1 Track comes in sooner N of Charleston
2 Track comes in further N up the coast.
3 Track close to Morehead before Wilmington.

Very subject to change.
Talking out loud here.
Follow NHC guidance always.

This is the box Dorian could make landfall.
Landfall means official the center of the eye.
So the eye can cross land and not be official.
That happened with Matthew in FL.
But Matthew despite NHC Cone...
...could not pull out without hitting SC.
I don't see how Dorian can.
Would LOVE to see Dorian miss.

Additional issue.
Depending on forward speed and direction.
Hurricane Force winds would be seen far inland.
Further than usual as usually...
SC/NC sees flooding and weaker winds.
IF Dorian picks up speed it could see...
Stronger winds, less flooding.

IF Dorian moves slower ...
...slows to make the move (bad news)
Flooding would be big.
But if it is a Major Hurricane...
or even a borderline Cat2/Cat3 as it is now.
The WIND BRINGS DOWN TREES.
HUGE TREES.

Not trying to scare anyone...
But oaks and poplars and pines don't bend.
They snap.
Falling on wooden homes...
...trailers.
Cars.
Businesses.

Dorian could go down in history with the big ones.
Talking on USA landfall it's historic now in Bahamas.

So here's a look at some historic storms.
I will update after 11 PM.

NOTE.....I LOVE THIS PART OF THE CAROLINAS.
Beautiful towns, homes, marsh/low country/beaches.
I was just there last Monday in Myrtle Beach.
After a slow drive up US 17 from Savannah.
Dorian is tracing that trip.
I'm not happy about it.

But I want people to be prepared for the worst.
Hope for the best.
Hunker down.

Wider view up of this area.
Should it trace the coast.......
stay just offshore 10 miles.
It would come in further North.
Remember NHC cone can change every 6 hours.
What will it be at 5 AM Thursday?

A little bit of Carolina Hurricane History.
Note each different in some way but similar.

Hurricane Hugo that I rarely like to mention as it's like screaming fire in a crowded theater but it's on the table as an analog hurricane for Dorian. A different track and approach angle but it did come in South of the Outer Banks and did not slip away like many did vs going inland all the way to Charlotte, NC.

https://www.weather.gov/ilm/hurricanehugo

https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/atlantic/1879/Great-Beaufort-Hurricane

Infamous hurricane in North Carolina. Beaufort NC (yes there are two of them, pronounced differently) did terrible damage to that area. Not all hurricanes in NC just hit the Outer Banks.

http://beaufortartist.blogspot.com/2007/08/fascinating-story-of-beauforts-atlantic.html

Speaking of Beaufort it's a good time to mention the Beaufort Scale that is still used to observe wind strength though not as well know as other measures. It works well for a person with little or no knowledge of meteorology having no equipment to judge wind speed.

Hurricane Fran Anniversary September 5th. You can't make this up.

Epic storm here in these parts as it was the last time Raleigh was directly impacted by a hurricane vs being brushed with a hurricane as usual happens. Ironically 1996 was the first year I was online on AOL in Hurricane History Message Board; the name changed a few times but it was a very popular watering hole at a time when everyone online was on AOL so we were all online together in the same spot. Long term friendships were formed and we followed Fran step by step until it made landfall in North Carolina. That year several systems did and it's beyond ironic that here I am 30 years later remarried to a man who lived in Raleigh and I'm now doing North Carolina hurricanes. Usually Raleigh escapes real damage but not in 1996 and not in 1954 when Hurricane Hazel made a bee line moving fast inland racing towards it's date with a front and RDU had hurricane force winds not gusts.

A different track but it must have been a very strong cold front.
https://projects.ncsu.edu/atmos_collaboration/nwsfo/storage/cases/19541015/

Strong cold front.
We aren't expecting that strong a cold front.

Just some thoughts.
Each historical track has merit.
Blend them together.
Add in Dorian's uniqueness.
You get Dorian's track.
Would love for Dorian to do Helene..
and pull away from the coast sharply.
It has happened, it can again.

Later...

Dorian is borderline Cat 2/3.
Category 2.
But any increase in wind and....
 Dorian goes Major Hurricane Again.

Canadian Weather Center puts all the storms on one page.
So there you are 3 cones in 1

Below from NRL ... great map.

A hurricane climbing up the SE Coast.
In Raleigh today around Noon.
Above my house.
A bullseye...

Earlier today but down deep in the blog here.
I said I was going to take a walk outside and look around.
Glad I did.
A huge Sun Dog was at High Noon in the sky.
Old timers told the weather from such signs.

Old timers knew.
But I'm much happier to have the NHC.
The models.
The satellite imagery.
Below is baby Dorian.

In this post below from a week ago.

Crossing the finish line into the Islands.
Not posting the song but...
....the song Baby Shark comes to mind.

Below look at Dorian now.

Old post you might want to read later.
Read it later.
The facts at 5 PM below.
New updated information ....

Brad Panovich is in Charlotte.
He is one of the best mets I Know.
Charlotte was visited by Hurricane Hugo.
They can get hurricanes but it's rare.
So that's the cone.
Note my discussion below.
The cone is partially over land.
Even if the eye stays over water.
Hurricane impacts move inland.

Interactive cone from NHC.
Watches, warnings.
Wind field of the storm now.
Close up near landfall.
Keep this in mine when reading my update below.
Showing models and small differences.
Small differences now make all the difference later..

And wide open view of the tropics.s
Beautiful... shame they can be so deadly.

Beginning to look like a Van Gogh painting.
Dorian over SE Coast.
Doing a Donna track but just off coast.
Forecast to stay E of NJ NY
Invest ENE of Dorian near Bermuda.
Stingray system no one talking on.
Oh I just did..
Very weak signature West of Gabrielle.

Gabrielle.
Beyond Gabrielle is the real deal.
Though not sure Gabrielle isn't a big deal also.

5 PM advisory of Gabrielle.
Our "Fish" storm as things stand now.

'

Note wave coming off of Africa.
That's the one most everyone is worried on.
As in could become a long term tracker.
Approaching Islands down the road.

Very brief update.
Nothing much has changed.
Models agree.
so does NHC.
Dorian doing it's thing.
2 options on the table for Dorian.
None show it going poof....
...because we want it to go away.
This is real.
Wake County Schools closed tomorrow in Raleigh.

One of the best mets in this area.
He covers Myrtle Beach and beyond.

GFS EURO keep it just offshore.
Or bobbling onshore a bit.

NAM (one example) brings it inland.

Loop above shows many things.
Gabriel, Fernand.
2 Areas of interest not yet named.

I put this image in.
You see the two systems coming together.
On this loop in motion.
Dorian lifting up.
Front lifting down.
Where they meet is the battle zone.
IF they meet inland......
...as Dorian takes it's ticket to ride.

Just is hard to avoid a landfall.
Neither system is zooming.
Though Dorian forecast to zoom away ..
...eventually.

Using www.windy.com because its visual and good.

Euro keeps Dorian along the coast.
Impacts inland.
Flirts with NC's infamous Capes.

Close up there.

See they jut out.
Beautiful beaches and places.

NAM makes landfall.

I'm not going to make fun of the NAM
It's a good short term model.
We are in the short term.
GFS EURO more to the East.
But let's look at worst case scenario here.
NOT to scare but to prepare you!

Cruises by Charleston.
Charleston gets slammed with weather.
Up to hurricane force winds.
Probable flooding ... it's Charleston.
Since it was first settled they have been...
...battling the flooding problem.

Dorian goes North with hurricane winds moving inland.
ON shore.. great video for TWC.
They have their pick of great beaches.

Close to where Hugo moved inland.
Note Hugo moved INLAND...
...not continuing to stay off the coast.
On and off and on and off...

They are prone to storms.
It juts out there...
I didn't draw arrows but.....
........slams my beautiful Pawley's Island
I have her calendar on my wall.
Awesome to follow on Instagram.
Shows you the beauty of this place.

?hl=en images there shown here.

Inland around Ocean Isle Beach.
Very very possible.
Plausible.

Going back to the EURO.
EURO is just offshore there.
Any wobble or jiggle it goes either way.

Again Euro grazes it and moves it further N

Hazel made landfall there.
Moving INLAND...
..not curving out to the sea.
Could that happen?
I would not rule it out.
I'm erring on the side of the NHC Cone right now.

GFS end game is Cape Hatteras.
OBX.
Note much of the weather is over the water?
Why?
Because the plan is the front comes down grabs it.
Shear is there, dry air closer to the front.
Weather pushed right.
Eye keeps moving along.
Weather goes with it.
Again chances for twisters inland.
GFS is very very very close to land.

Use any models you like.
Windy is very visual and easy to use.

Models remain the same.

Track seems set in stone.

Inland questions.
Coastal problems.
All the places that flood will flood.
Though it's possible this is more a wind issue.
Than a water issue ironically.
Everyone expects the last storm.
They almost always get a different storm.

That's a lot of wind.

What a difference 20 miles can make.
But the storm is way wider than the eye.
We obsess on the eye.
I'd like you to obsess on the weather.
Rain. Wind. Flooding.

I actually tracked this storm old style.
Why don't know.
Just always felt it was a Classic Hurricane.
Even when it looked too weak to survive.

Remember that when reading my musings below.
Someone mentioned that online today.
I always believed in Dorian.
Why?

Again even though small.
Convection in the middle.
Rudimentary tail behind it.

Look at it now.
Tail goes down to Cuba.
Huge storm.
All from this little itsy bitsy Invest.

Old blog post.
Obviously I didn't expect it to be 185 MPH>
But I knew it would be a Donna, Fran like storm.
Hugo and Irma... the ones we remember.

August 27th.... Last Tuesday.
Seems like it's been a month not a week.

Note music and musing at the bottom.
Facts at the top.
Information intensive blog today.

atl_ir4_sat_tropicalindex_anim.gif (640×480)

Picking up speed.
Note Fermand far left made landfall.
TS Gabrielle formed and spins far right.
Something popping up there closer in.
Much to discuss but this post is all about Dorian.
Bothering Florida.
Moving up to bother Georgia.
Traveling dangerously close to South Carolina.
Beaufort to Kure Beach watch out.
Cape Fear and Cape Lookout...
You COULD get landfall.
Most likely they stay off the coast.
And clip the Outer Banks.
But I cannot guarantee it escapes.
More on that later.
This box has landfall issues.

Again more so from Beauford SC to Kure Beach NC
Worried on Charleston as Dorian nags me.
Reminds me of Hugo but a different angle of approach.
Outer Banks get hit often ...
... then weather goes up into Virgnina.
Happens.

Hurricane Recon, God Bless them, are doing their best.
They are in there giving us updates in real time.
Live updates including radar that shoots down into Dorian.

Link to discussion. Easy to read.
Sometimes hard to understand.
If you read mysteries you'll love it.

Salient valuable points.

"near of over the coast of North Carolina"

"dangerously close to the SE US Coast"
Destructive Winds.
Flooding Rains.
Life threatening Storm Surge.

Dorian has always been a shape shifter.
Eye is back in place.
A huge eye once again.
Knocking on Cat 3 door again.
Out further over warm water.

Crawling up the Florida Coast.
Lashing the beaches with wind, waves.
There is much beach erosion going on.
And they spent a fortune trying to fix them..
...after Matthew and Irma.
So far Dorian is a stalker.
Lurking offshore watching from a distance.
Will Dorian come to call up the coast?
Well the wind, rain and flooding will visit us.
Waves on the beaches, flooded low lands.
But will the eye, the center of the eye ...
...touch land?
Time will tell.
That time is coming soon

There's Dorian.
Half a heart.
You can't make this up...
Close up.

Dorian in motion.

Threatening all my favorite places.
Yes taking it personal.
I'm preparing in case it comes too close.
I live in Raleigh, NC.
(when not in Miami often)

Close up of my favorite loop.
Water vapor loop.
See the dark color to it's NW...
...where the yellow is reaching down.
A lighter blue is to it's SW.
Watch as the yellow gets down under it
Lifts it up more to the North.
Directing it on the NHC Cone.
But how close to land does the eye come?
Not really important if you live in a low lying area.
Winds, Rain, Flooding happens far from the eye.
Twisters happen to..
So follow the eye but don't obsess on the eye.
Watch the WEATHER in it's mass.
It's bulk of weather.

St. Marys Georgia.
Just North of the FL GA Line.
Beautiful place.
Google it.

What I'm doing below for you.
You can do at home.
Google whatever your city name is and the term "NWS"

Let's follow the weather.
Weather Information in path of Dorian.
Killer Hurricane Dorian.

Jax is almost a second home these days.
Okay Miami is.. it's in between.
3rd home as we stop there often.
TS conditions expected...
possible Hurricane conditions.
They are usually but not always tucked safely away.
The curl of the Florida hurricanes.
But they dealt with Michael and Irma.
The last few years have not been kind to them.
Great city really.

St. Marys. Oh my gosh a low country paradise.
Small town, quiet,  peaceful.
Unless a hurricane rearranges it's waterfront.
And brings down huge oak limbs.
Tossing hanging moss all over the place.

TS conditions expected.
Hurricane conditions possible.

Old blog post above.

Following the weather.
NWS Charleston.

Hurricane Warnings means they are expected to get..
...hurricane winds even if the eye stays offshore.

Charleston above.
Myrtle Beach to it's North below.

Wilmington further up the coast.
BRIGHT RED WARNINGS.
The color and the warnings tell the story.

This is happening.
It's real.
It's happening again.
Say it ain't so.
I can't.. it is what it is.
Hurricane Warnings AGAIN

Going inland here a bit.
Raleigh where I live.
Example in BELOW of what YOU can do.
That simple.
Raleigh NWS
Voila links to NWS for Raleigh.
Do it for your city please.

Woohoo. Look at that.
I'm in the red.
Where I live is North Raleigh.
On the Eastern edge now you know.

Note again the red square at the left below.
Says "now until further notice"
Things change.
They can take our warning away
Or put us in a hurricane watch.
Weather is fluid.
NWS and NHC updates in real time.
Check them often.

My list of what to do today.
1. Organize all storm supplies in one easily accessible place.
2. Cook dinner early so I can update the blog.
3. Make sure all windows are locked tightly.
4. Bring things in from the balcony.
5. Clean out fridge though things away (in case we lose power...)
6. Stock up on ice cubes (in case we lose power)
7. Find First Aid supplies and put them with storm supplies.
8. Get some rest (haha that's not happening)
9. Go outside and look up and see if I can see outflow.
10. Remember to go on Whastapp and Instagram and check on my kids.
11. Blog with whatever information I feel helps people cope with Dorian.
12. Try to keep focused and be calm. Taylor Swift song cue... true, calm is good.
13. Cook for Shabbos (Saturday) as I may not have power Friday. I've got a TS Warning.
a) Pine trees and oaks don't bend with the wind like palms and power outages expected.

It's the calm before the storm as they say so I'll update as I can.

My BOTTOM LINE IS
1. Things can change even the NHC cone.
2. Dorian can intensify for now as it's over warm water moving slowly.
3. I'm not a huge fan of the trof forecast to grab it.
a) why? it's going to in theory but it's not a deep trof and Dorian is stubbon.
b) watching the water vapor loop I'm not too thrilled.
c) I see the dip in the wv and I see the front. It's there but it's weakish.
It should be strong enough (note I used the NHC fav word for low confidence)

I don't see dark, darkness North of Dorian.
I see dark (high pressure) below on SW side.
It's currently lifting it gently away from FL.
To me the movement will be NW to NNW.
NNW... that means landfall.
It's basically at 80 west now.
Hard to pull out of that without a stronger deeper trof.
Concerned somewhere it gets pulled N before NNE
And it's all timing.
It could start to speed up and come in earlier.
Though usually it comes in later.
If it comes in lower it cuts in across land.
It veers NNE NE trying to get out to sea.
That's my concern.

Where? I said before.
Beaufort SC to Kure NC.
Give or take.
IF THAT HAPPENS.
Places inland such as the Sandhills..
could see stronger winds than usual.
And flooding could be wide spread.
More on this later.
For now this is my issue with Dorian and the cone.

Models show a small break from the offshore track.
Does that trend continue?
If so it's more a Fran/Hazel vs ...
...regular clip the Capes and out to sea.
Easy money says Wilmington.
Maybe Myrtle Beach :(
Love Myrtle Beach.

Water Vapor Loop doesn't make me feel better.
Stay tuned.

Dorian has a ticket to ride.
But does it care?
Will it take that ticket?
A bit worried it may wait til the next tain.
But seriously hope it takes the ticket.
And says goodbye!!

This is my blog.
I started because Jim Williams .....
was threatening to shut down a message board.
He likes real facts, hates hype.
People were arguing because the season was dead.
First blog post here on the right in 2004.
It's evolved like the weather.
So I have.
I live in NC now vs Miami.
Yes... Hurricane Country.

So that's it for now as to the hard core real weather information. I'll update at the top today. This is a blog, it's a log or a diary of my own thoughts trying to process them for myself and to help anyone reading it get a better feel for the storm, to understand what the NHC is saying and to help you stay one step ahead of the forecast as things change. Anyone who went through Charley on the West Coast of Florida where Charley turned in sharply (as I said it might in my blog) or the Virgin Islands who went through a developing Hurricane Dorian when they were told it should miss them and hit Hispaniola and PR to their West can tell you... things change. Butterfly concept here, one small things changes and extrapolated over hours the whole forecast changes just enough that suddenly you are in the cone not just your cousin Martha.  Stay tuned. Much love. A long, rambling diary sort of post that tells you more about who I am and who chasers and trackers and meteorologists are and why we do what we do but it's hard to explain but that's me, being me. Doing this in my own way. Follow the NHC for the real deal bottom line they are the ones who put their jobs and your lives on the line. Note a man died today putting up shutters. Deaths happen before the storm, during the storm and in the mad rush to get back to normal after the storm. Let's keep the death toll down and keep calm but do what you got to do. Gotta go prepare ... will update later, keep reading if you want to learn more if you have wondered.

A peek at my day.
I go online check Dorian.
I check out my friends who I trust.
I read what Cranky says.
I talk to him.
9:19 AM I listen to Mike.
More on him later at the bottom.
I read what his follows say and ask.
I learn a lot from them.
I respect Mike a lot.
I forget to drink coffee.
Dorian has been the best diet ever.
Guess I'm not an emotional eater :)
I check out what Rob has to say
I look to see what Jim is saying.
Jim is a great guy, good friend.
Awesome knowledge of hurricane history.

Then the rest of y'all...
I check notifications because...
... if anyone needs a question answerd.
I try to get back to you.

I have TWC on ...
..switching to local Spectrum for local info.
It's pretty much all about Dorian in NC now.
The way it was in Florida last week.

Warning here...for long term readers who like when I go long and rant or ramble. And for NEW COMERS who wonder who I am and why I do this...some true confessions of the tropical kind. There may be mistakes, didn't proof because I was afraid I'd delete it all and I need to prepare my house in case Mister Dorian comes to call.

Pieces of me above.
Top middle my librarian days :)

Mike said something this morning on his Facebook Live when discussing a mistake he feels he made when showing some video that he thought was a news video everyone was using but was indeed a specific chaser's video and he didn't get rights (if I got this right, I was sleeping late this morning) and he said he tries every day to get better at what he does to provide you all with the best information. He took the video down and he explained what happened and said he will try to not have that happen again and one of his fans (followers) told him it was a "teachable moment" and they were so right. Everything we do leads to being a teachable moment and I've been blogging since 2004 never expecting to be doing it in 2019 but I am and I learn all the time from others I work with and people who comment online giving me praise, thanks and good advice.

http://hurricaneharbor.blogspot.com/2004/06/

We have been doing this since 2004 both of us and a group of us go way back to the late 1990s on AOL and then we migrated to Message Boards and then Websites and Blogs went up and then somehow we ended up on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and some on Reddit that I don't link on as much but do read here and there. That's life and many of us know each other well both offline or just online from late night conversations about threatening hurricanes waiting for models to come in or a new advisory to come out.

Speaking of old friends online and people I respect greatly.
Josh Morgerman almost got swept away.
Well he's always emotionally swept away by hurricanes.
As Mike says online often... it's an odd passion.
And we are addicted.
Like Mike I grew up racing to the weather radio for new info.
I even used to call a phone number at the NHC ...
...it gave the advisory and a bit more information than the radion.
TWC came on and I was totally addicted.
Though back then it was more WEATHER and maps nonstop.
And I had it on nonstop somewhere in the house always.
My exhusband was upset with that and many other things.
Life gets crazy sometimes and mine especially.
Ended up divorced.
We are good friends now.
Got remarried.
My husband and ex are Facebook Friends.
Life is an evolving story.
TWC was named during the court proceedings.
I think my ex said something mean about Dave Schwartz :(
Hey it's pretty public info as it was in the Washington Post.
Honestly.
This is not about me. It's about US.
Trying to talk and explain a bit who we are...
Mike racing to get video out to people who can help.
Mike racing to get video out to INFORM people...
... maybe they will evacuate for Dorian in SC or NC.
MIKE is a doll.
Like a cute puppy who drinks ;)
A fantastic father and husband.
Good guy.
He can talk forever... so can I.
Sometimes I go long.
Hurricanes are long trackers.
I track hurricanes.
I've studied them in depth and lectured on them.
I've spent days and days at the NHC.
They have the most awesome library.
Friends there were always helpful.
I was not involved with Dave Schwartz.....
shaking my head, put some meme here.
I've chased hurricanes with friends.
I've chased tropical weather with my brother.
Chased storms with my best friend Sharon.
Never chased a bad hurricane..
...okay a strong hurricane.
Bad hurricanes have chased me.
Donna.
Cleo
Betsy
Andrew
Wilma
Katrina
Etc.
TS and Cat 1s I've been at the beach chasing.
Measuring winds, Taking photos.
Soaking it ALL in and I do mean all ..
Getting plastered by wind, sand, water.
And yeah loving it.
But that's me.
As Mike says "I can't explain it"

Since 2004 online.

This is what I do... nonstop.
Watch the WV Loop.
That I was taught to use and taught well.
MIMIC...
NRL links that are numerous.
Old hurricanes dance in my head.
The one that hit Ocean Isle Beach.
The one that slammed into Charleston.
The one that got away.
Between my ramblings and videos.
Music and literature references.
And my long detailed blog.
I'm not for everyone.
And that's okay.
We are all different...
...yet we are the same.
Because we do Weather ....
the way some people bowl or fish or shoot pool.
And if I can share information with you...
...to help advise you, warn you and inform you...
Then good and I hope it helps.
It's a free service.
I don't ask for money.
I support friends who do ...
I'm just a girl who loves weather and loves writing.
But rarely do I go deep on me.
So putting it out there so you know.
Now you know the rest of the story.

Switching modes here so know that one reason I am writing this is because someone left a comment on my blog that both made me laugh and annoyed and then I laughed again. I learned a while ago not to pay too much attention to comments. I used to but over time they were usually like "great blog I love it, if you need hurricane shutters call me at ...." and sometimes I miss one from my brother who is old school and lives in Greece or a really good, nice comment I learn from but the other day someone said "regurgitation of Levi" which took me a minute as I have a son named Levi but he meant Levi Cowan and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry but being me I laughed. I mean it's kind of a compliment Levi Cowan from www.tropicaltidbits.com is awesome, intelligent and informative. I've always supported him by sending his links and defending him when he took on Matt Drudge (who is a good guy really) when he put his graphic up zooming in on landfall and by doing so cut out the top left part that says they were models from Tropical Tidbits. Matt just wanted to show the "landfall" I'm sure not to cut Levi out and after that I've noticed Matt keeps the whole graphic up even though people just want to see landfall. And respect Levi Cowan that he spoke up and he did that but true confessions I don't regularly listen to him though my younger son loves his videos and others do. I'm usually on line writing late at night or talking online with meteorologists I'm friends with and someone asks if I saw Levi's video but by then I'm half asleep and have to stop talking and stay on track and watch his video. Levi is good, he is very academic but he's not Jim Cantore and I get distracted easily especially as I know what he is talking about so I end up going back a bit and thinking "wait what did he say" and he is basic and good and informative and you all should watch his videos. But often I miss them and he doesn't update throughout the day and I get that but no I do not regurgitate what Levi says and Levi doesn't say anything new under the sun he shows you the hurricane, he shows you steering currents.. he shows the water vapor loop that I stare at all day long and he shows models and gives his good thoughts.

So yeah putting this out there one time at the bottom of a real post and doing it stream of consciousness not writing great literature despite my DEGREE IN ENGLISH and work towards a MASTERS DEGREE not finished because I got married, went to work for Chabad with my ex-husband, moved to California and had a whole lot of children before moving back to Miami and having more children and I still have more books on F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda than you can imagine along with books on meteorology (many out of print), geography, history and I won awards in college (big awards, with money involved) for my degree in International Relations where I had a special emphasis on how meteorology directs the needs of nations as they try to survive and thrive better ..........for example the Ukraine is Russia's breadbasket as you can't grow wheat very long in their short summers and they need bread to survive. Being silly now because Dorian has me punchy and I have to go prepare a bit just in case it moves a bit more inland faster finally catching that trough and I lose power.  Russia needed a break basket, the Ukraine was their breadbasket as were agricultural rich places such as Hungary and Romania. Russia needs a warm water port... Crimea is a warm water port. Russia waits out it's enemies such as Napolean who did get to Moscow but this troops were ill prepared for the Russian winter and the list goes on and on and why do you think Russia had a war with Japan... ports, water, etc. Territorial concerns and bringing this back to weather ... I'm concerned with YOU protecting YOUR territory and staying alive even if it means evacuating and if you hunker down do it well and should the house fall apart hope and pray the eye is wide and moving slow so you can get to safety like Josh did in Hurricane Dorian that had 185 MPH winds and 913.5 barometric pressure where he rode out the hurricane. He's a chaser, you are not. And when people ask me "how can you chase a hurricane" (meaning I'm a woman, with kids etc and remember I only did weak storms with friends who know way more than me) I tell them "it's better to chase a hurricane with people who know what they are doing than to have the hurricane chase you to your house and threaten your family and tear apart your home"  Chasing is an art and a science and except for Tropical Storms in the Outer Banks near by these days I stay home and write and blog so I can help perhaps one person or more get through the hurricane. It's my online diary and I'm letting you read the thoughts going on in my head, not asking for money and selling you anything just sharing what I feel is important information. And I do it my way and if you like it you must be still reading this (told you I go long you should hear me talk) and I want to say THANK YOU for your good advice, your thoughts and sharing on Twitter or Instagram (@bobbistorm) and my husband is a good sport and my ex husband who I care about and am friends with now all these years later sends me pictures of snow on his balcony in NYC. I can't explain what happened in 1997 except Mother of all El Ninos took our hurricanes away and we all went a little crazy. But... as my best friend said on an episode of Hard Copy with me... "El Nino's Gone and We're Gonna Have HURRICANES" and now you know why we are best friends.

And now you know the rest of the story.

Now back to Hurricane Dorian and all the hurricanes of 2019 and La Nina is in the wings so it may be a real strong winter and we may have hurricanes all the way until early November.

Thanks and stay safe, stay strong and always have a great sense of humor. Learn to be loyal to your friends and as my Momma taught me... if you don't have something nice to say don't. I'll add if you can't make the world a better place.. go watch Netflix or play a video game, do your thing and I'll do mine.

Great shirt from Jim www.hurricanecity.com
Have a bunch of them.
Have a big one I sleep in sometimes.
True nuff.
Fall asleep staring at the water vapor loop often ...

Ps.. I'm a 4th generation Floridian... my family lived in Key West, Tampa, Quincy (tobacco farms) and eventually Miami and I learned much from their wise observations about tropical weather. Old time Southern Jew and long term Floridian. Old timers know trust me. There was really something about my Grandma Mary ... let me tell you :) If you are here... turn your sound up and listen to the sound of a hurricane below. And really happy Josh is safe!! We all are happy he's alive and will live to tell the show.

Turn the sound up LOUD.
That's what a hurricane sounds like.
Think twice before you stay.
And evacuate if you need to.
