Miami --- Tropical. See It Like a Native :) Quiet Tropics. Discussion on African Wave in a Week or So Coming Off Strong Models Approve. Home Grown Odd Areas.
Okay I'm in Miami or as I call it "home" doing my thing with my kids and friends, wandering my way around Miami visiting old haunts and new places I've never seen. Yes, it's warm but it's not blazing hot like Carolina or DC and there's a steady breeze from Biscayne Bay. I spent a lot of time by Biscayne Bay. My youngest son has a Masters of Architecture and loves, loves, LOVES Miami. Where he gets that from I can't imagine. He has some favorite places with awesome views he wanted to show me so after hanging out in Coral Gables and driving around Ponce Davis we drove over to the old Rickenbacker Bridge that is only partially up still eclipsed by the new tall bridge to Key Biscayne where locals hang out to watch the sunrise, sunset and to fish. It's incredible.
Oh and before that we went by Marine Stadium that was a local haven for an artist community that practically lived there on the weekends creating amazing patterns of graffiti together and then going over the graffiti a few days later. I have a few kids who have spent much time there creating art, enjoying the breeze keeping it alive. There was a big Press Conference held with Gloria Estefan to announce a movement to save it but all they did was padlock it with a guard and nothing much has happened. Sad... it should have been made into an Art Museum with music, shows, etc. The views are incredible. But the view, the breeze is still awesome as the graffiti fades in the sun and the memories of concerts still live on Youtube.
Then we went under the tall causeway where people fish.
Where people hang out, paint and take photographs.
I do mean "walk under the causeway....
as in "Mommy be careful ...."
Now I know where he gets those sunset photos...
Miami is a land of ocean, bay and sky.
Causeways, bridges and Expressways.
Canals, rivers and inlets.
Homes and parks by the water.....
People in love with the view of the sky.
There were people fishing nearby.
Peaceful, poetic, quiet.
Waves lapping against the shore.
And then the sunset.
Miami dark against a dark gray sky with flecks of gold.
Clouds... always clouds.
An ever changing array of clouds and light.
Then we walked down the edge of the old bridge.
Where people fish, sleep, talk, stare out at the water.
One quick look back at the old Seaquarium....
Key Biscayne.
Sun illuminating the Saharan Dust a bit
Then sky got darker.
The sky always surprises you here.
Clouds, moisture rising up into the atmosphere.
From the end of the old bridge looking out...into the night.
Then we stood on top watching the lights ....
Twinkling in the darkness.
Our beautiful Miami.
Okay to be honest we spent 20 minutes discussing....
...what a Cat 4 Hurricane like the 1926 Cane would do to it today.
The angle, the approach, flooding, construction good.
Window would be blown out.
A realistic conversation as the sky turned dark.
Then one long drive back down the highway....
Brickell, Biscayne Blvd...
Back home to bed.
The old, the new...
...all blended together magically.
Magic Miami.
Woke up this morning and did it again.
Sunrise.
Miami Shores.
6 AM
Looking East towards Miami Beach.
Looking Southeast towards North Bay Village.
Watching clouds building over the water.
It was here that Julia Tuttle's father lived.
The Mother of Miami...
..first time she saw Biscayne Bay...
..and knew it was good.
Boaters head out early at the sun's first rays.
And then the city wakes up.
From what was once known as Biscayne.
The city along Biscayne Bay...
Known now as Miami.
Palm trees catching the breeze at the water's edge.
We can worry on the hurricanes later :)
I'll be back Sunday with an update.
Discussing possible tropical action coming.
Enjoy the quiet times.
Shop til you drop for hurricane supplies.
Take time out to enjoy a sunset!
