Hurricane Barry for 3 HRS NYC Blackout... Barry Made Landfall - Moving Slowly - Some Flooding. Rainfall Forecast Totals Lowered. Not Over. Mother Nature Cancels Stones Concert & Forces End to JLo Madison Square Garden Concert.

Can't wait for 1st morning visible satellite image Sunday.
Lots of moisture from Barry.
Very active Wave Train in the Atlantic

Barry... Moving SLOWLY Overland

Convection waning a bit tonight.
Much rain expected tho rainfall forecasts lowered.
Hurricane Barry for 3 hours....
Big news story.
Fears of flooding.
Some flooding did happen.
Some rescues took place.
Rolling Stones Concert in Nola cancelled.

And then there is the other huge news story tonight!

NYC Blackout. Midtown Manhattan.

Oh... Jennifer Lopez Birthday Tour Concert Ended Early

Really have to wonder why Mother Nature has it in for Music today?

What are the chances of the two biggest shows of summer to be off.

So starting here with Barry first then NYC Blackout.

Both huge news stories.

It's kind of funny and surprising in that I knew I'd be glued to the news on TV tonight expecting to watch coverage of Barry doing New Orleans, Baton Rouge and all the associated towns and Parishes along the way.... but the images of some flooding here and there of underwhelming Barry for live coverage of news not politics as New York City lost power in Midtown Manhattan on July 13th again for the 2nd time in history as it's the same date that it happened in 1977. Please make a note, do NOT book a hotel room for July 13th in NYC...

Despite having 3 hours of fame as a hurricane.
Barry is back to Tropical Storm status.
The Cone is shown below.

Wind Probabilities often show trends.
There are still some possibility of high winds.
Mostly gusts in random thunder storms.
And there was a tornado warning earlier.
There will be more later most likely over the next few days.
Where ever tropical weather goes that threat is there.

As of 11 PM Sunday evening.

As hoped and prayed for.....
... this is not as bad as it could have been.

"the possibility that the strongest winds were not sampled"
Okay........

Listen it was expected that they would upgrade Barry to Hurricane as they had indicated a few times in discussion near landfall. As Barry remained disorganized with multiple centers it was hard to say just which center would make landfall first, but shortly after upgrading Barry to Hurricane they announced Barry had made landfall. Wow, did that forecast verify or what?  As I said yesterday there really is not much difference between a 70 MPH Tropical Storm and a 75 Hurricane as to actual impacts and it's more for the history books and yearly totals. 2019 has had it's 1st Hurricane Landfall of the year almost a month before the 1st hurricane forms in any given year. Pretty impressive if you look at it that way. Not to play down the continued potential for trouble and danger from the huge mass of moisture down below the multiple centers of Barry but I'm pretty sure Viagra lasts four hours so ... what more can I say on that one other than I have never seen the NHC ever under anyone's direction upgrade a tropical storm to a hurricane based on the fact that they may have missed the strongest winds during recon. Maybe they have..........  it's possible but really the discussion pretty much says it all and it's a win for them and whichever models predicted it as it's officially a Hurricane.

NHC gave Intracoastal City as their point of landfall.
Where is that you may ask?
Vermilion Bay area...
See map below.

Seems NHC has a special affinity for Intracoastal City.

You can Google it.
This is what Wikipedia says.

"it is often used by the National Hurricane Center as a breakpoint for tropical cyclone warnings and watches which affect the bayous of eastern Louisiana but not the west of the state."

Here's a bigger map.

Close up of the area below.

Luckily the cities there are few and far between.

But of course the weather was everywhere.
A real fail that Mobile Bay had severe weather....
...and not much talk on Alabama getting slammed.
As said earlier all the strong weather was right of "center"

And note I've said for days it would hit in that area.
Not using models but knowledge and reading the WV Loop.
Vermilion Bay LA was most logical.

I'll do an update on what areas were most impacted Sunday.
Again... this is NOT OVER for Barry.
Most of Barry's weather was South of Barry so it's still out there.
Stay vigilant and hope for the best not the worst.

Note most of Barry is still over the Gulf of Mexico.
So this is far from over.
But hopefully we continue to get lucky.
Some of Barry's tail goes down to the Yucatan.
That's a lot of moisture yet to come.

So keep that in mind.

The really big news tonight is NYC is dark.
A level 3 call out to bring officers in...
Very messy problem to maintain order.
And so far so good.

Hamilton isn't showing tonight.
Panic on Broadway can ensue.
Okay being serious.
This is a huge news story.

Mid July is BIG Tourist Time.
Hotel's windows mostly do not open.
People are out in the streets.
How does NYC lose power on July 13th twice?
I know everyone is saying Mercury Retrograde.
Well some are saying it's a plot...
Trump Towers is in there somewhere.
The Mayor of NYC is in Waterloo, Iowa.

The City that never sleeps isn't sleeping tonight.
They are waiting for power to come back on..

Drudge loves weather.
He kept Barry Center Stage (so far...)

It's a large area really........

The density population wise there is crazy.
People live in Midtown.
I have friends who live there...
Tourists.
Well what can I say?

Going to go watch Barry spin online....
... watch the NYC drama play out..
Hey it's the only show in town on Broadway tonight.

All the people are out on the streets in NYC
People are being begged to stay off the streets in Nola.

Crazy Saturday Night in America

So I'll update on Barry tomorrow.

Baton Rouge had multiple problems as expected.

There is flooding in all the places where you would expect to see it.

It is what it is.......
Everyone stay safe and be back tomorrow.
