Will pay attention when one goes cherry red.

This area cropped up the other day.

Riding the Northern part of the old wave complex.

chugging along.

Not any real model support.

Maybe one model showed something...

..but models get low grades this year.

So do I really care about "the models" ??

Last time a model verified was Debby.

Long range GFS model nailed Debby.

Maybe long range GFS will nail Francine.

Waiting for that wave to get into the W Carib.

like Pop Up Stores in the 2020s

Speaking on Labor Day....

A storm suddenly popped up...

...supposedly out of nowhere.

BAMN!

August 31st...  became a TS

September 1st ... Hurricane forms!!!

September 2nd makes landfall as a CAT 5!!

Boom!!

Easy to say that today we'd be watching some weak, westbound wave for days as a yellow and orange circle but models weren't excited and NHC was cautiously debating putting up a PTC Cone and who knows what really might have been. No satellite imagery, just lots of weather data from old time weather people who collected data and shared it so they could piece it all together in real time hopefully or later after the choo choo train fell over when a wave like a tidal wave slammed into it on and the next day dead people were found in coconut trees. Being honest here, it was not pretty. Read reports if you love morbid detail. 

Could that happen today? 

Well... Katrina formed close in like that, slammed SFL as a Hurricane but not a Cat 5. She saved that for later....

Last year we had a huge puncutation to the 2023 Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season. Pop up storm, RI.

Otis slammed ashore as a Cat 5.

After meandering for a few days....

unable to pull it together.

Did so on landfall...just before landfall.

Small, intense storm.

Rapid Intensification was said to be explosive.

So don't mind me if I watch weather...

...in the tropics during the Hurricane Season.

While waiting for the Old GFS run to verify

not watching new African wave, nope.

GOM still has potential as it's lingering.

Causing lots of weather.

Stay tuned.

Maybe we get a cherry.
