Here's NHC map for Monday.

My thoughts below.

Here's my look at the Tropics on Monday... a nice healthy tropical wave riding South of the Dust towards the Islands, an Invest near Florida that may be overland now waiting to jump back into the water in a day or so with higher chances and a deparing Tropical Storm that everyone is fussing over because it's 2020 the year we are on a race to make it through the whole named list even if the storms have as much meat in them that a Fake Beef Buger has but hey it is what it is so if it has a name I'm going to post on it because it is what it is.........

Years back Jim Williams used to tell me to do videos or something like that. We'd talk on his old great segments he'd do on air with such excellent in depth analysis of what was happening and often he would have guest speakers or highlight an author who wrote an incredible book on various hurricanes. Those were fun days in our weather world and several social media networks back when weather people would actually talk weather and I enjoyed it and learned a lot as well as added several books to the collection at the library where I worked. So that video was for Jim. In truth it's for everyone who is dumbfounded on the naming frenzy this year of any system that shows any potential on a model or that impressed someone at the NHC. There used to be very rigid, too rigid rules, for naming tropical entities and sometimes it was exhausting to watch them wait for enough time to lapse to deem a well developed system a tropical depression or upgrade it to a Tropical Storm. Nowdays it's just the opposite, if it spins it wins. Everyone likes to make fun of TWC for naming "Winter Storms" and making their own list but in truth this Hurricane Season has felt like the NHC is trying to compete with TWC to see how fast they can get through the name list.  More on that at the bottom of this blog if you want to know my thoughts.

My feed this morning is like this...
...and the DMs are beefier.

Again this is the Tropical Wave.
Firing up on approach to the islands.

This is the Invest ...in there somewhere.

Bit of a disturbance by the Wave.
The "circulation" ish of 98L is visible on radar.

Mike is back from vacation.
July 4th Weekend is Over.
Josh has hit the road for the tropics.
Somethings gotta give soon.
I'm talking real tropical trouble...
...like we haven't seen yet this season.

Regarding the rush to name storms this year.
These are my thoughts.
Again the NHC makes the call.
So they are the bottom line.
But there is a lot of controversy by many.

I know change isn't easy for many of us, especially weather folk as meteorology has lots of rules and definitions, but change is the name of the game and it is what it is this year. I know a few meterologists who totally refuse to discuss a storm that was upgraded that looked worse than... well our area approaching the islands that isn't an Invest. It may become one and I suppose they will watch the models and do their thing and make their on call.

The bottom line here is that the NHC is the bottom line so if they say we are looking for Fay next up then it's Fay. Historically it makes comparing old years to this year about as ridiculous as comparing a Beyond Meat hamburger with a rack of lamb just off the grill; yes if you are into vegetable options that look like meat then enjoy the no beef hamburgers but they only look like beef and these days they almost taste like beef but they aren't beef and they sure aren't lamb. My house is Kosher so if I want to make a "cheeseburger" or some "chili" with cheese on it I'll use the fake meat but hey it's fake and it's not a lamb burger or an Angus Beef Burger and many of this season's named storms had as much meat in them that those fake burgers have but if you are really hungry and it's all there is you may give it a whirl and try one and say something like "okay, it's not that bad" and you may admit "it's pretty good" but you know damn well it's not a hamburger. I had one in Vancouver in February and it was "pretty good" with lots of ketchup, mustard and fries on the menu at a Dairy Restauarnt.  Nuff said...

What I can't say enough of is you really need to prepare for this coming Hurricane Season because at some point when the dust dies down and the waters heat up these healthy waves are going to make their way to our part of the world and first stop will be the Islands and as they trace that huge High out there they could do real damage. So now is the time to stock up on supplies and make plans for where you will go if you evacuate or where you will go if you chase and how you will do it during a Worldwide Pandemic that is making many of us change our routines and do things a little differently.

Again the Dollar Store and places like ALDI have good deals on basic essentials and now is the time to start stocking up. In my neck of the woods there are lines to get into Trader Joes and Whole Foods often as the stores are limiting the number of people allowed in as our Covid numbers are up and people already look like they are in a crappy mood trying to stay patient in 90 degree weather waiting outdoors to get inside. Trust me it will be way worse when a Major Hurricane is headed to a town and you have to wait your turn to get inside because they are already at maximum capacity for Covid rules which are state by state, sometimes county by county different. So when you go shopping grab a little bit extra for the Hurricane Season.

Don't be fooled by this naming frenzy in thinking that all the storms will be nothing this year and we don't need to worry. We are barely into the Hurricane Season. This is barely PreSeason Football (remember that?) and @iCyclone says the hurricane season isn't starting until July 10th when he's in place in his Hurricane Cottage so he generally knows right? I did say by July 8th we'd have something out there to track be it a tropical storm or an "oh my gosh Invest" and I was right on that. Though I'm still thinking something semi real will blow up later this week but time will tell. While time is telling it's time to stock up on what you need to get through this Hurricane Season.

I'll add in that this year has the potential for high latitude storms so if Wilfred makes it up to New York or Boston don't say I didn't warn ya.
