Earthquake Barbados...Caribbean.. More Southern Snow Possible...
First off...............it has been downgraded to a 6.5 but that's splitting hairs unless you own a glass boutique at ground zero perhaps... what's bugging me is how active the Caribbean has been ... & how wet.
Been a very, very wet year down in the Caribbean. From South Florida south all the way down to South America... rain is falling on the islands in the dry season.
3 months prior to the start of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season
Let me say that again... 3 months before the Hurricane Season.
So I want to lead off with a good source for news on the Caribbean is always StormCarib. Looking to see what they say later today regarding the 6.5 Earthquake near Barbados and Martinique. Good post that is widely read in that part of the world.
I say this often... going to say it again. Every weather person is a closet geology freak :) When there are no hurricanes or blizzards to watch weather people watch the Earthquake wires.

For example Mister Matt Drudge has one on his site every day... there are some people who hit that link before almost any other link daily.

Remember that scene in What's Up Doc? Where Ryan O' Neal waxes poetic on igneous rocks? He probably also quietly watched the weather. Guess he'd be watching those Reality TV shows about mining up in the mountains in thunderstorms. They might play hockey or golf... but the moment their app shows them the Earth shaked, rattled and rolled... they are all over it.
- Do NOT Panic ! |
|
It is my stellar but personal opinion,
that,
1) The depth, distance and google earth, mean a tsunami definitely less than one (01) foot high can be generated esp. in the coastal areas of Guadeloupe.
2) The tsunami process is moving outwards (north-east) towards shipping in the north-central Atlantic.
3) The problem is not the tsunami or panic word tsunami but the vigilance used to deal with the situation. SPECIALLY AFTERWARDS, when the effects of the hazard are HEIGHTENED.
4) It is not life-threatening if vigilance is observed, DON'T PANIC.

In the world of weather.............another WINTER STORM will most likely make people in the South groan and wish they had never said those four little words back in November "Oh WOW It's SNOWING!"
A small weather quake hit the web last night when the GFS and other models spit out yet another Southern Snow storm that would affect other parts of the country as well.
For ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY until it's consistently in the model runs for the next several days. But... be warned it might happen...
Yup...that's weather people... closet meteorologists flirting with geologists who secretly wish they were meteorologists.
Welcome to the world of Earth Science online. To be honest......I am a bit worried on why the North Coast of Cuba has had two strong quakes in an area not known to be meteorologically active. Then again it's like when you hit an air pocket and the pilot comes on and says, "sorry about that folks, we don't expect anymore of those but... then again we didn't expect that one"
Stay tuned... enjoy whatever sunshine you can find... winter is not gone... not gone at all.
