Explosions, Fire, Death and Storms. West, Texas "near Waco" 20 Years Later..

Maps below...

Map posted on Facebook.... being shared over and over... incredible close up view of a town that has been rocked by an explosion at the fertilizer plant there that is now being watched and prayed over by people as far away as the Pope.....who definitely has to be really the first "Global Pope" in that his small town of the Vatican extends it seems way beyond Italy. I think it's worth noting..more for philosophical reasons than religious ones as we all pray. Our world these days has become very small and we are close despite being so far away.

We are one with Boston.  A small, small town on a lonely highway in the center of Texas has blown the bombs in Boston off the map and the commonality is ... we are praying. We are praying along with a Pope from South America who is tweeting from Italy to people around the world about a town that is so small that it is hard to find hard data on how big the town is...    it's a brave new world indeed and this April in 2013 we seem to be doing an awful lot of praying.

The world is watching Texas today.... as well as Boston and I wonder who is left watching Korea?

And talk on Deja Vu.... twenty years later almost to the day another small town in Texas is on the news with images of fire pouring out of structures and a news feed listing the number of casualties.

West
City in Texas

West is a city in McLennan County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 2,674. It is named after T.M. West, the first postmaster of the city. Despite its name, West is located in the north-central part of Texas. Wikipedia

That's a town so small it barely registers on the map and yet... the explosion registered on the Richter Scale. The town of West, Texas is located in the middle of nowhere... 20 miles north of Waco, Texas and not far from the Bush Ranch. The fertilizer plant is probably one of main sources of employment in the town that has less than 3,000 people. Some parts of the town have been leveled according to the press conference, other parts sustained severe damage.

A dot on Highway 35...

Firefighters are missing. Dangerous, hazardous materials may be in the air and on the ground. They are testing for fumes and worried on more possible explosions.

It's been compared to an atom bomb ... good description. Drudge has a great picture, taken from the Sonic Restaurant... says it all.

News reports are coming out that in 2006 the plant was cited for safety concerns and lack of a disaster plan. Let's hope they put one into effect. A complicated story that is still unfolding...

It's complicated by a line of strong squalls about to pass through from the severe weather out break that is currently ravaging the region.

Current radar... Thursday Morning...... current weather Thursday morning...

No real reports yet worth giving over on the dead and dying as the number will change and climb. At least five...  many people put their injured family members into what was left of their cars and drove to Waco or Dallas... or wherever they could find fast medical care...
I imagine someone there thought the world had been attacked... and yet everyone knows that fertilizer can be one of the most unstable substances and highly explosive.
I'm also wondering what the connection between Fracking and Fertilizer is ... and I know there is one. I do know that the multiple earthquakes in Oklahoma are connected to fracking. Is this a problem or something that can be controlled? Don't know .. but it bugs me. Seems to every energy solution there is a problem... like Wind Power. Some love it, some hate it.

So much to wonder on if you have the time... I don't, not today. And, yet today I am thinking on Waco twenty years ago. Always upset me, always and forever and hard to believe there was not a way for the government to contain that situation and manage it better than they did back when they began a siege on a building where innocent people that they were trying to save from the Cult leader..... died in the fire and explosions.  A bad situation which was handled horribly....

20 years ago today... Waco, Texas...

West, Texas... 20 miles north of Waco Today...

9 years ago today on a personal note..my father died in a quiet, hospital room in Miami, Florida.

Normally... Texas is a beautiful place and normally Boston is one of the best cities to live in..

Remember today when you are out and about to enjoy life, to pray for others and to do acts of goodness and kindness. Breathe the air..if there is no pollen there... reach out and connect with someone you love be it Twitter or Facebook or even the old fashioned telephone.

Breathe in, Breathe Out... give thanks.
And, pray for those who need your prayers and give money to those who help others like the Red Cross.

Ps.... trust me would rather be talking tropics than tragedy, but it's in the news and oddly weather is a big factor today in that region. Oh...and as for the men in Boston...the FBI confirms they are looking for the men in the photos that are being circulated around the Internet.. pray they find them fast.
