Hurricane Bertha Had A Bad Day and a Tirade on History vs Global Warming Sheep
Far away from land, a bit too north to probably hit the United States or maybe even Bermuda yet nothing is out of the question until she takes off like a bat out of hell for the North and East.
Basically, she had a bad day.. fell apart for a variety of reasons, too much, too soon, too fast and she went from a strong Cat 3 to a Cat 1 by evening.
She currently is regrouping after spending all her money in one massive spending spree of energy and emotion. She put on a beautiful show. She really did. She is still putting on a beautiful show.

Yep.. she had a bad day. We all do.
She's chugging along currently as we speak, argue tracks, look at models and discuss the famous hurricanes of the past. With each chug she gets back over warmer water and all I can say is that those of us who refuse to learn from history and our mistakes are doomed to repeat them over and over.
Science is wonderful. History is amazing. This is an ongoing blend of both.
Have heard and read over and over the lie repeated that this is the EARLIEST Cape Verde Storm to form this FAR East and how we have never had such a rapidly forming intense storm ever ...how she breaks all the records but what they fail to mention is that little disclaimer.. "since we started keeping records" "since we had incredible sat imagery" "since we could slice and dice a storm at NRL" and as a historian who writes often under my real name (not BobbiStorm) and researches historical events it upsets me to no end because when you repeat a lie over and over people begin to believe it and then forget the truth which is buried somewhere and left in the dust.
Once upon the time oceans covered North America and big whale like creatures swam across the area now known as the Prairies. We know this because big fish like fossils have been found in places where they cannot get there today. Something changed. Were there hurricanes than over Oklahoma and Kansas?
The Artic being possibly ice free is hailed as something that never happened before.. how do we know?
Are we so ignorant and arrogant to believe that what we have recorded the last 150 years or so or since William Reid observed a cyclone and wrote about his observations winning the first Meteorology in History Award given since records were first given. I am giving that award by the way, if someone else has.. my bad, sorry, oops. But, man did that man deserve an award.
When the poles flipped where were the hurricanes and how did they travel? Were there hurricanes. Do we know?
Even if you are a biblical purist and believe Mother Earth is only 5768 years old (Jewish Calendar) then you still have to admit that back in the days of Noah no one was putting out advisories on pre-historic Hurricanes like Bertha. Maybe during the flood the one last big hurricane formed from such an event was a Category 7 and the on the seventh day she rested. Do the math 5768 - 200 years (since 1808 AD) leaves 5568 years for hurricanes to have no records for.........???
However you cut it, however many years planet earth is there have been many hurricanes in the middle of the ocean where Bertha is even early in July. History is bigger than we can even conceive of in our minds it seems.
This is not about being a global warming person or a skeptic. It is about me being a historian plain and simple and a person in love with the scientific process of discovery. And, in love with people who have open minds and live outside the box and aren't afraid to search into the vastness of the universe to better understand our little daily world and which way the wind blows and why.
One of the best lists compiled anywhere around of history and hurricanes:

Great list of just a few of the storms we have information on.
In the old days..if a storm went through a hurricane, a strong one where Bertha is now and the ship went down with all hands on board... no ship log, no record, oh well. And, by the way.. it happened a lot back then so all we have are records from those that survived the storms. Please keep that in mind.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it.. it still fell.
You look at this loop and you tell me which way Bertha is going and when is she going to get there and how... it's fluid, happening and ongoing and one of the greatest dramas on the face of the earth.
