Updated 11 PM Sunday Night. . Invest 95L & 5.1 Earthquake NC Been That Kind of 2020 Day. Unfinished Blog I'll Finish Later Today. Started Saturday Night about Hurricanes, Comets and Earthquakes... whew that's spooky.

Late night thoughts. Posting this here so I can compare and contrast in the morning. 95L looks good on some sites, weak support on models and lots of discussion by bored mets who won't be bored in a few months. This is our "lull" as it is with an orange Invest and systems in the EPAC so I'll check back in the morning on the morning visible to see what 95L looks like. This is a good loop, you can move around within in in all directions. Bright white color at the end of this loop says it's pumping. Time will tell.

I updated earlier by my phone.
I hate doing that.
Anyway that's impressive.

My issue with 95L is it's clusters.
Clusters of convection moving fast.
Mike called it Blobby. Maybe.
Blobbies pural.
But we probably should pay attention.
It's got energy.
Then what?

Here's a Dvorak Loop.
www.tropicaltidbits.com has many good l oops.

Sweet tropical dreams,

NHC has now upped the odds to 50-50 orange circle

Out and about
Will talk on models later.
Stay tune...

Invest 95L now in the East Atlantic.
From that wave that was over Africa....
The one that has a 20% chance of forming currently.

Oh and we had a 5.1 Earthquake in NC this morning.
That's kind of close to hom.
I'm in Raleigh... remember?

I started this blog late last night.
I fell asleep unable to see anymore...
Lost in 1889 as I wanted to do some Hurricane History.
You know real old time hurricane history....
Years with mix of odd 2020 type of mixed calamities.
You know comets, earthquakes and hurricanes...
Thought it would be kind of 2020 to write about..
Way back in history.
OLD hurricanes history

Then I woke up around 8 Am ...
I know it was just after as ....
..I checked the NHC annoyed they didn't upgrade.
And went back to sleep.
I'm guessing it was around the time of the Earthquake
Didn't occur for me to check earthquakes. Hmnn.

Yes, first thing I did was check NHC.
Still 20%... "fine, going back to sleep"

Woke up later and heard about the earthquake.
Lord you really can't make this up.
So showing the new Invest 95L
and the 5.1 earthquake.
Hmnnn

Yes that's Brad Panovich.
One of our best meteorologists doing geology on Facebook Live.
Proving my point we all are fascinated by both.
Geology and Meteorology.
Earth Science.

So yeah there we are and once again does life imitate art or art mimics or can you really unravel it all?

While reading old stories of Carolina Hurricanes I read the passages on the comet and the big New Bern Hurricane and decided okay why not as we have had a comet and we have a busy hurricane season. I'm not saying they are connected, the poor Governor has been lambasted enough by mets on this one, I'm just saying it seemed so 2020. So does the 5.1 earthquake North Carolina just had so if we get a Cat 5 nearby, don't say I didn't warn ya. Leaving the blog below unfinished til I finish it and update it later today.

The joy of a local book is this...
It tells way more detail than you find online.

He goes long on the year 1856.
3 Hurrianes on the map at the same time.
Give or take. Not related.
And the one in NC was very bad.
Yet the Wikipedia site doesn't show that.
It does show 3 landfalling storms.
But local books tell local details.
Books matter.

I'll finish this blog in a bit.
But you can see where I was going.
Maybe I was on to something??
Be back soon... keep reading.
Besos Bobbistorm.
Leaving this up to show the 1889 Quake and Shake.
Go figure really.
I'm a bit blown away.
I also still need to wake up ;)

Here's an old time song.
For an old Hurricane History blog.

to be finished in a little while.
Signing off at 11 AM.
Yeah... Invest 95L
5.1 Earthquake NC Mountains.
Hmnnn...

* * *
Updated, finished.
Though there's always more to say about ...
...Hurricane History.

Bit slow in the tropics so......
....doing some Hurricane History.
Busy years.
Years with Hurricanes and Comets.
or Hurricnaes and Earthquakes.
Years that matter.

1692 is a long time ago.
But when a bad hurricane slams Jamaica...
... in close proximity to an earthquake!
People used to sit up and pay attention.
Of course Port Royal was quite the town back then...
...a hot bed of anything you can imagine.
So many blamed it on the wild goings on there...

No map for 1692 but Jamaica definitely had a hurricane.
Ships loaded with valuable jewels.
Bounty of gems and pirates looking for them.

Not a busy year.
But a memorable year.
3 landfalling storms.

Note how tracks crossed twice.
Obviousy hot spots that year.

Local reports of the NC hurricane were devastating.
Well devastating to the early settlers.
Who probably hadn't been thru many.
Crops destroyed.
Ships smashed
Weather historians researched this early on.
To make sure these were 3 separate hurricanes.
You can read all about it in this great book.

https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/great-hurricanes-of-north-carolina_john-hairr/ when I knew I was moving to North Carolina I ordered a few books. This one was small, whereas the Jay Barnes book is huge. I was a bit disappointed, but it's crammed with notes and information not available online or easily found. A lot of research, quotes from old logs and journals... it's an awesome book.

Next we have 1769

Ironically in NC it's the NC hurricane.
The hurricane that sunk New Bern, NC.

Back in the day the hurricane was blamed on the comet and this picture of the comet is actually from Germany, but I'm pretty sure it looked this large in the Carolinas as Governor Tryon mentioned in as a possible reason for such tragic destruction. Back then comets scared people, now days they are a photo op for a staged marriage proposal though I'm sure there are many who wonder if there is a connection between a bright planetary vistor and a wicked hurricane!

Earthquakes following hurricanes?

1886 was a very busy season.
I used it as an analog earlier in the year.
But it was busy for many reasons.
That's busy in the pre-satellite era...

I had this year here last night.
Busy year impacting everywhere.
And the Carolinas.

So this morning when researching that last big one.
Yes, the last big one in NC was 1916.
Bizarre but true.

A quote from this article is below. The earthquake was in February, hurricanes followed later.
See, it's not just 2020...

"Sunday, February 21, 2016 is the 100th anniversary of the Skyland earthquake which strongly shook western North Carolina and was felt in South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, Kentucky and West Virginia, an area exceeding 200,000 square miles.  The farthest location to report feeling the quake was Norfolk, Virginia, 365 miles away.  This is the largest earthquake to have occurred in the state during historic times.
Top of chimneys were thrown to the ground and windowpanes were broken when the quake struck at 6:39 p.m. on a Monday evening.  Damage reports from 59 towns and cities in North and South Carolina were collected by the Weather Bureau and reported by W. J. Humphreys, Professor in charge of Seismological Investigations at the Weather Bureau in April 1916."

I looked at this year a few times.
In reference to this year.
Coastal cruisers along the East Coast.
GOM Storms.
Began in May ended late.
It seemed a year to watch as an analog year.

1916 was a very busy hurricane season featuring storms that traced the same basic pattern in multiple storms.  Famous or infamous for the Pawley's Island hurricane but when you check out the map you'll see the pattern that existed. Began in May and ended in November and this was before satellite imagery so we may have missed a few out in the ocean.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1916_Atlantic_hurricane_season

In 1910 the world was fascinated with Haley's Comet yet later in the year during the hurricane season people were brought back down to earth dealing with landfalling hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin. The Cuban Hurricane was an interesting looper that came back to bite Cuba badly.

I really can't say if there is any correlation between hurricanes and comets or earthquakes more than a mere fascination and wondering on how things work. Many have written long studies on earthquakes and how volcanoes but I didn't go there. It's just one of those things that make many go "hmmn" but officially there is no connection. Then again if you had trees down from a hurricane on your house and a week later you get woken from sleep by an earthquake... you may wonder silently if there is some connection. 2020 has been a crazy year and I imagine it will just go on getting crazier and crazier so keep watching, be prepared and think good thoughts. One thing I now is there are MEMES now out there everywhere as this one caught my husband's eye and showed it to me.  Easier to laugh than cry and got enough to worry on so yeah... what's next?

Stay tuned.....

Ps...there's a lot more behind 95L

SAL may still be out there but our wave family...
...is juicing up the atmosphere.
