Atlantic Quiet. For Now.... Things Happen Suddenly in 2023....... Horrific Sadness in Hawaii Connected to Hurricane Dora ... Enjoy the Quiet Times. Give to Red Cross or A Good Charity If & When You Can.

Tropics are quiet.

The sun has set in the MDR a region stubbornly quiet this Hurricane Season so far. It did produce a few waves that developed close to the Islands and the wave that didn't develop in the Atlantic that did so in the Pacific becoming Hurricane Dora that's nearness to Hawaii set up the strong winds that wreaked death, destruction and horror in paradise.

What can you say about one day life is good, everything is wonderful, blue skies, balmy nights with a gentle breeze and then suddenly something changes. Winds blow, a fire ignites and races across the landscape forever changing the fabric of life there, lives lost and shaking us all to our core that in an instant everything can change.

It's hard to explain to people that Lahaina has droughts, the same way Aruba in the Caribbean is dry and parts of the island of Cuba has a desert like environment perfect for making an outwest movie.

It's hard to explain that just like this happened out of nowhere, it's also possible the 2023 Hurricane Saeason can come alive and create more drama and destruction than you ever imagined. I'm not into the prediction of numbers 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes, 2 majors. Some named storms are 40 mph Tropical Storms not as strong as afternoon thunderstorms in Miami. Sometimes it rains so hard FLL is flooded out with 24 inches of rain in less than 1 day, really less than 10 hours. Tornadoes happen and flash floods are the worst as no one can get out. Though hearing the water in Hawaii was on fire from petroleum in the water (did that really happen) and people died in their cars trying to escape is pretty aweful to even try to picture.

So when hearing about how busy the 2023 hurricane season is or how quiet it is or reading people online saying "its over, stick a fork in it, on to weather" while others insist we will have possibly 5 Major Hurricanes... it's all chit chat, chatter and clickbait until the switch is flipped and hurricanes start to happen.

So far in 2023 Hurricane Dora will be remembered for whipping up the wind the same way Hurricane Lane is remembered for wind driven fires in Hawaii just five years ago.

Have a good weekend. Busy here with stuff and being honest. You want to make a difference? Give money to a known charity such as the Red Cross https://www.redcross.org/local/hawaii.html and make sure your hurricane kit is set up, your plan has an various options and know trouble can happen when you least expect it!

Much love.... as always the season starts when it wants to or when it can. Crazy shear is out there and dry air and many levels and as waves roll off they are basically burned alive in bits and pieces before a core can really even try to develop. Often a wave wanders west, sometimes it splits. The high is strong, it pushes it towards Florida or into the Gulf of Mexico or maybe an early season cold front gets things going as the dead front hangs out too long in untouched, virginally hot water.

Have a good weekend. Something should show signs of life around August 18th, maybe sooner maybe later... August 24th or 25th. Enjoy the quiet time.
