August 2023 - TS Dora in the EPAC - Atlantic Quiet.... 2 Areas of Interest with Diminishing Returns. Start of the End of Summer. Enjoy It. Do What You Love !!

If you look closely that's cooler air.
August 1st.
Open a new window...and I did.
Kind of a wide U

Chances going down down down.
Emily not happening yet.
EPAC has small Dora.

Not being judgemental ... just honest.
Moving out to sea...

Many think of August 1st is the start of the end of Summer, unless they live in Florida or Texas, Savannah or Mobile but up in North Carolina there's a cooler feel to the air this morning. No illusions, it won't last long but for a few days you can open the windows for a few hours early in the morning and let the fresh air in and contemplate the coming of Fall. And when fronts begin to move, dipping down into parts of the country it's really the start of the change in the pattern in Hurricane Season. Every year has exceptions, but until fronts begin to push down the hurricane season is usually on hold. Small named storms spin up and just as quickly fall apart until this passage of seasonal attitudes.

Everyone thinks of Hurricane Season as June 1st, summertime and such but really it doesn't get churning until we move deeper into August. Many busy years didn't begin til late August and no not defending this year saying "don't worry Caroline we will have hurricanes" but we will at some point. Careful what you wish for as the saying goes.

Models generally are quiet except for one or two pop up close in possibilities and then there's the GFS that's always reliable to hit some city along the Gulf of Mexico somewhere between Houston and Mobile on any given long range run. It's most popular dream location is that beautiful area along Highway 90 from New Orleans to Gulfport as it must dream of long ago hurricanes as it spins these fantasy canes up. Hey, eventually it could be right, I mean if you keep putting it out there a few times a week at some point it's within reason. But not today and not this particular season... not yet.

I've done that drive.
Get off of I-10
US 90
!

Short clip from YouTube.
Find your own, there are many.

But it's only when you drive it...
...do you really get it.
Low lying land on a gentle slope.
Across the street ... the Gulf.
It's very real and in your face.

That said... it's quiet today.
Nothing expected for a while.
Enjoy what's left of Summer!

I went to the beach on Sunday, it was beautiful and just what I needed. Fresh air and a cooler breeze after some storms passed through and amazingly the sand cooled off faster than I've ever seen it happen. The sand gets hot where I was usually, but not so hot oddly. There's a cute restaurant with seats up on a patio deck with cute little tables that have umbrellas and a view of the beach that's divine. I rarely use the word divine, but it is and I got an Isabella Hurricane and sipped it slowly enjoying every moment!

Rained a bit while we were there.
On the deck, under the umbrella.
Just sat there smiling.

Do what you love!
