Will the Wave Develop? Fins, Olypmpics and Russian War Round Up!

Everyone might want to bookmark this site as it may be valuable later in the week if you accept the GFS Model that takes a strong storm towards
the islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. It is about a week out so until it gets closer I wouldn't run out and buy those last few hurricane supplies
but going over your lists couldn't hurt.

I am far from sold on this wave. Yet, it has something to it or what we might call a "look" of a wave that looks like it wants to organize better.

This is for August 20th and it is a long term forecast..not to be relied upon unless you are a wishcaster who is longing for a hurricane to threaten our side of the Atlantic Basin.

We'll see, it's early in it's development and mind you it has not developed yet. It is only a gleam in the GFS model's eyes as there isn't even an Invest
on this system yet I would think sometime tomorrow ..if it makes it through the night nicely... it should have it's own invest.

Off the Florida coast the area is ripe for some kind of development. Some sort of subtropical storm that would ride in the general direction of NE could develop. There is a look of swarming moisture in that area and it is worth watching in my opinion.

Amazing strong storms in Miami today. My daughter woke me to go look outside, she said it had that look I liked and I would want to see it. Garbage cans were blown over, straight lines winds mixed with swirly winds and dark skies. August, in Miami especially when a trough of some kind is hanging around and it is.

So.... as Bastardi talks on winter coming early and the Football Season has just begun even though it's August it feels like Fall to my Miami mind.
Snow.. oh... gee, don't think my daughter in Ottawa wants to hear yet about snow just yet.

On another note... Fins started their season tonight. Would rather have Favre in a Dolphin's Teal Blue than Pennington. McGowan was no stand out. Henne played better than his other two gaining the most yardage.

Passing CP/AT YDS TD INT
C. Henne 5/10 67 0 0
J. Beck 5/9 45 0 0
J. McCown 5/8 35 0 0

As for the Olympics I haven't had a chance to watch yet but will probably look tomorrow. Not very interested this year and I am one of those people who have problems trying to be happy about watching games be played in a place that has policies that go against my grain. The death of Tod Bachman in China today should send a few shivers through a few bones because despite all the pageantry of the opening ceremonies and the drama of this team against that team it highlights my concerns. There is much anti-western animosity in that country as well as animosity towards anything that isn't officially sanctioned by their country. I saw late night news people in Miami comment that Mr. Bachman was not wearing anything on him that could specifically identify himself as an American. Yeah.. right. I don't think he quite blended into the crowd and was definitely seen as a Westerner at the least. Sad, very sad. Most sad because those related to him will have to go ahead and try and do their best despite that sadness of the tragedy. That is the real drama of sports, that the show..the game must always go on despite what else is happening in someone's life.

I remember living in LA in 1984 and watching the balloons and doves released during the opening ceremonies soar past our apartment in the dark blue of the sky, a really beautiful moment. It was fun living in LA during the Olympics, exciting, like the city was dressed up for a birthday party or something. I can't seem to muster the same feeling watching the Olympics this summer but I am sure I will catch a few of the events.

And... going to read up on the details of Russia at war tomorrow. This was a war that probably is mystifying most American's as they turn on their news or go online but it was a war that was bound to be fought. It is imperative for Russia to keep control over this breakaway republic that has aspirations that go way beyond what most American's can imagine while watching swimming and diving events at the Olympics far away in China.

Do the Georgian's really feel they are apart of Russia aka Moscow/Russia or their own entity. In this new Global world everyone wants a piece of the pie. And, much of the power of the old Russian Regimes remains in Georgia making it a bigger problem in the balance of power than many who think that Georgia is that state that Sherman burned to the ground way back in the 1860s. So... if you want some online reading while to do while your favorite programs are on hold with the Olympics go for it. You have a day or so before the wave develops into a named storm ;)

(last link gives you some insight on the Georgian Republic.. hey it worked for my son) CIA Fact Book.. great library resource!

Sorry to go political but my degree is in International Relations, Russian Studies post War War 2 Politics and this "war" intrigues me as I've been waiting for this to hit boiling point for some time now.

Stay tuned for updates on the wave that the GFS really, really likes. Let's see tomorrow morning in the NRL site and the other models like it as well. The National Hurricane Center has given it a Go For Development so now it's up to the wave. Show us what you really have...

Be well... sweet dreams, Bobbi
