Derecho Forms and Slams Into Indiana as Edouard Spins in the Gulf
PDS - Particularly Dangerous Situation
It is said that less than 3% of weather warnings come under this category and if I remember the warning for the City of New Orleans prior to Andrew contained one of these. They are rarely issued, a few times a year sometimes across the whole country.
From the AP:
Chicago tornado warning sounded; Wrigley cleared
45 minutes ago
CHICAGO (AP) — A powerful storm has led to tornado warnings in downtown Chicago and to the evacuation of fans from the stands at Wrigley Field.
The National Weather Service has not confirmed any tornado touchdowns. But it says trained spotters have reported high-rotation winds in DeKalb and Kane counties in northeastern Illinois.
Tornado sirens echoed throughout Chicago's downtown Monday night.
Thousands of fans at Monday's game between the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros were evacuated from the stands to the stadium's concourse.
Meteorologist Brad Churchill says 60 to 80 mph winds are expected.
The Chicago Department of Aviation says more than 400 flights have been canceled due to weather at O'Hare International Airport.
Back to Bobbi...
This line was one large bow echo. I wondered a few times if it was a derecho which you see rarely. A large, stormy area racing across the area with tornadoes and strong straight line winds. Winds were in excess of the winds found by recon in Tropical Storm Edouard.
Cell Phone Tower down, at the airport in Chicago they tried to clear people into safe areas. South Bend, Indiana is about to get slammed by this line. Watching on webcams it is nonstop lightining, what an electrical storm.

How fast is this storm moving? Winds in Excess of 80 mph in this storm now approaching South Bend.
Info on Derechos that I believe this line has evolved into.

As for Edouard. It's like this... hard to find it on some sats, it is really hugging the coastline and despite the fact that it's "center" is further away from the shore the "weather area" is being pushed closer to shore. A slight turn to the left has begun and wondering now if it will pull to the left of Houston. Either way it is fighting dry air and shear and I really can't bet money on it ramping up before landfall like Dolly did. I usually only bet on sure things and this is far from a sure thing.
Good old fashioned loop easy to load for late night viewers that don't wish to use too much caffeine before going to bed ;)

Note that 99 is still there barely. There is increased moisture in the SW Carib and I am wondering on the MJO becoming a factor.
It's great to watch Cantore doing a live broadcast while severe weather is happening, he is almost better in the studio than on location. Great analysis. And, yes... he said it as well, there might be more damage from tonight's derecho than from Edouard.
Time will tell. We are a week away from the start of Monday Night Football.
For those of you who can taste it and feel it... enjoy and get ready it will be here soon!
