Bermuda, Long Island and Cape Cod Watching Hurricane Bertha

There is a reality to hurricanes that must never be ignored or forgotten. When you have a big, bad hurricane to the South or specifically Southeast or East-Southeast of you..you must never let your guard down and ignore the big bad wolf.

You can rely on the National Hurricane Center to provide you with up to the minute information, watches and warnings and track every variation, stall or loop in her track. But...things often change in the world of weather. That is why there are 100s of weather message boards all across the internet, probably thousands. Some for surfers, some for golfers, some for beach glass collectors and shell collectors, others for wind surfers or sports fishing fanatics and some for just plain old garden variety weather fanatics.

Why? Because weather puts on the best Reality TV Show on the planet. It is ongoing, ever changing, always surprising and always amazing. Better than EDTV and better than Real House and better than following the adventures of Brad and Angelina.

Weather is intricately connected with geography and in more subtle ways geology.

Weather is connected... to everything.

So... I leave you with some thoughts while Bertha sits this weekend working on her tan and spinning out in the big blue Ocean still far away from any possible landfall.

This islands and areas stand out into the Atlantic Ocean tempting the fates and the fickleness of storms to find a way to reach their distant shores. Time and again over the history of Planet Earth Hurricanes have hit them. They have threaded the needle in the ocean and hit Bermuda dead on.. and many have raced across Long Island on their way to Cape Cod.

Happens. Especially when weather patterns bomb out, go flat and hurricanes stall.

Let us hope Big Bertha who is still pretty far away from landfall or turning out to sea sticks to the plan.

Rely on the your local forecasters, play online on websites, read all advisories from the NHC but never let your guard down on a hurricane that is that far to the South of you and that still has lots of running room and tricks up her sleeve.

Something to think on... Keep Watching!

(Ps...heard it's suppposed to be really, really warm on Cape Cod this weekend)
