11 Days Til Hurricane Season. GOM On Fire With Severe Weather Moving Fast. 5th Anniversary of Joplin

Hurricane Season is 11 days away. There's much to say but in truth today is about the 5th anniversary of Joplin Tornadoes and more severe weather along the rim of the Gulf of Mexico. Note this is the same area that many meteorologists, including myself, are concerned on with regard to the upcoming Hurricane season... in 11 days.

Impressive set of flare ups today.

One moved through and the next one is pushing through now.

You can see the 2 separate impulses within the larger line of storms.

When the flow slows down and the last of the cold fronts stall out..

...we will have to watch the Gulf of Mexico seriously.

Possibly the Caribbean too as there is much to think on there.

But today is about remembering Spring Severe Weather... 

...and remembering to prepare for the upcoming Hurricane Season.

We are hoping the new storm surge warnings by the NHC will help prepare people.

There are so many moving parts to hurricane warnings.

As we learn from past mistakes (Sandy...) . . .

 . . . we hope this will clarify things a bit.

A new cold front is forecast to move through South Florida.

It may stall out in the Florida Straits on in the Caribbean.
