9 PM UPDATE HURRICANE IDALIA INLAND Carolinas........ Idalia Made Landfall Keaton Beach, Big Bend Florida

8 PM

Remember NHC tracking the center.

Hope New Bern is okay.
I really love New Bern.

Idalia's rain is everywhere....

Went to the store there were misty skies.
Gray everywhere.
Layers of gray.
Came out of the store...
... lines of darker clouds rolling in to Raleigh

Kind of huge, in your face.
Little later it rained on me.
I smiled... rain from Idalia.
Later tonight expected stronger.

From earlier...

What can I say.
Been a long day.
So much clean up in Florida
Perry, Steinhatchee.
Towns you never heard of...
Tallahassee got slammed hard.

My daughter-in-law's mother Kathy has no power.
I knew Tally would get hit hard.
I just did.
Happens.

This is a picture after landfall.
Back side weaker, on the South.
Dry air got into the center.
Banding on West/North side strong.
Tallahassee hit hard from those squalls.
This signature continued up the coastline.
Idalia doing Carolinas tonight.

Offshore Idalia came to life.
Overland has a punch.

I'm tired. I don't know what to say. Talked to my friend Karen in Chiefland this afternoon, trees cracked (missed the car) house is fine, lots of debris. I knew she'd be fine but good to hear her voice. Watched tons of video of people chasing, friends out in the storm, watched Fox Weather with Bryan Norcross and watched Jim Cantore in Cedar Key showing the storm surge. My best friend, more a sister ... Sharon who passed away last year from cancer loved Jim Cantore, she could watch TWC all day.... especially during storm coverage while I usually surf around watching friends chase live on YouTube. When I'm  at the beach. I knew the real weather was coming into Wilmington after dark and decided that's not gonna work for me. It's like a snow storm.. I want to see it in the daylight, falling not at night squinting and trying to make out what's happening. Maybe later in the season in North Carolinas there's always another hurricane or tropical storm cruising near Wilmington or the Outer Banks. NWS discussion on stronger winds tonight pushed Wake County here into closing schools, doesn't take much round here to knock trees down and lose power, and some parts of the area are prone to flooding.

So today I sat and watched Jim for Sharon or Jimbo as she would call him. And, it was fun! Nice summary if you missed it of him showing the storm surge moving into Cedar Key.

Thanks for sharing info on Twitter.
Thanks for reading.
Thanks !!

NNE 20 MPH and...
...it'll be moving faster probably.

90 MPH Hurricane INLAND

My concerns today...

Stay off the roads....
This video shows Idalia on the move
Concerns in the SE
Don't want deaths from accidents!!
Driving into a oak tree on a dark road tonight!

See the radar... it's really moving fast.

Idalia is moving thru the SE.
I-95 will be a mess...
...accidents happen.
Pine Trees SNAP
Oaks CRACK
Vidalosta getting this now.
Stay home if you can.
Stay off the roads, if you can.

Tornadoes are possible.

South Carolina and Georgia getting hit hard.
And talking inland, not just at the beach.
Savannah is being hit hard now.

Later tonight I'll get something.
Gusts higher and we'll see what we get.

Idalia is just way larger than about LANDFALL. It's been a top side loaded storm for a while as seen on Mimic, Radar and Water Vapor Loop. Friends on the road chasing all complained about how there was barely any back side, as Idalia did an Eye Wall Replacement Cycle just before landfall and the front is robbing it of it's moisture signature.

You can see how the moisture both clouds and rain is out ahead of it as it mixes it up with the frontal boundary and races away more like an October Hurricane than a late August one. 2023 has been interesting in odd ways, let's see what happens next. Note power outages are rising from Florida to Georgia to South Carolina as Idalia takes power lines down with the trees that are falling. Stay home, or close to home if you can if you are in the path of Idalia. I am. Thought on going to the beach, it's a long ride and with this set up you get this weird flow where the surf is pulled out to sea kind of anticlimatic vs waves crashing in and honestly I want to see what Raleigh gets and areas around Raleigh. I want to wake up to 64 degree weather :) and getting over a bad cold, cough and a bit of asthma. So enjoying this from home, can go to the beach another day and it's only August 30th ... Remember September is Prime Time in the Tropics and there will be more hurricanes at some point close by. One thing I love about NC is I can go to the beach, I can stay home... at some point the rain from a hurricane falls on me and eventually snow falls in the winter. It really has it all from the mountains to the beach and those places like Raleigh in between!

In the Atlantic... TD 11 is out there being ignored.
Staying out at sea.
Orange X is 70% ...
it moves up towards it's friend TD 11

What has formed in the MDR ...
...has stayed in the MDR.
So far.

And, Idalia came up from the GOM
Didn't form until Carib
Because EL NINO

There should be more down the tropical road.
Idalia's road is set in stone.

Close up for today.

IMPACTS FAR FROM THE EYE

Mitch West Weather
Good friend online.
Trying to go home to his family.
After chasing Idalia
Good to follow in the Winter
In Carolinas we're hoping El NINO..
..delivers us snow storms!!

Last thoughts.......

Note while there is debris...
..when u see signs up.
Not a bad hit.

Again a very small area of Major Cane winds.
Most areas getting wild gusts.
But winds much lower than expected.

Perry FL 85 MPH
Keaton Bch 83 MPH
Horesehoe Bch 81 MPH
Mayo 73 MPH
Madison 70 MPH

Again extremely high gusts.
But sustained wind lower.
Violent Mesovortex winds!

So far...
...more reports will come in.

Will update later.
Any change in forecast track.
Damage reports will come in.
Hope and pray no one died.

Just stay home if you're in the SE
In the path of Idalia
Pray u keep electric
And watch TWC online!

Keep reading from before...
...if you haven't done so.
Back Later...

Idalia made landfall near Keaton Beach

Keaton Beach is a sjmall town North of Fish Creek.
On Apalachee Bay.

Landfall Keaton 9 miles N of Fish Creek on this map
This shows the curve of the bay.

I'll update after the 11 AM.

Landfall clearly.

Cantore covering storm surge.
Those homes are hjigh up off the ground.
Remember that!

A lot going on, on the phone with a friend who is chasing, watching Live Feeds. The eye is there, but it's sort of evaporating with dry air so it depends on where you are in the chase ...eye wall replacement cycle and to put it honestly Idalia is hauling ass inland fast. As I said this is a concern of mine as places up the road in Georiga moving faster than people realize. The same can be said for South Carolina. I'll update in a bit.

Stay tuned......
