Azores Weather the Storm. Alex Gone. Damage Reports Light. Some Azores Hurricane History.

The good news is the Azores weathered the storm.
No that's not a Winslow Homer picture but it looks like it.
Good old Winslow seems to really have gotten hurricanes down right.

They boarded up and hunkered down.
Apparently a recent winter storm in December was worse.

A lot of things worth noting here concerning Alex and the Azores. First off they get storms often in that part of the world. Rarely do they get direct hits from tropical weather but they have on occasion.

Hurricane Bonnie hit the Azores in 1992. Ironically that is the same list we have this year as Bonnie is the next name that will be used on the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane List. Oddly a similar sort of trek across the ocean though in September and October. Hurricane Bonnie was a long lived storm that got lost in the shuffle during the clean up after Hurricane Andrew.

One of the most famous hurricanes in history ended up in the Azores.

The San Ciriaco Hurricane an OBX legend ...
....ended up in the Azores and beyond.

Alex is gone, gone, gone.

NHS is back to it's normal sleepy January.

Happens.
Though Hurricanes Hardly ever happen in January anywhere.

Stay tuned.
