Tropics Quiet.. My Rant on the Dinosaur Train Telling Children "HURRICANES ARE BAD" (just so wrong...)
This is what we call a frontal boundary that maneuvered itself all the way down to the tropics... and got stuck.. It is draped across Cuba...leaving South Florida in the clean dry zone of blue clouds and breezy conditions. There is also moisture in the Eastern Pacific AKA "EPAC" that is flowing from west to east into our basin.
You can go wider with this view and see a larger water vapor loop below.
For now any tropical development would be..could be in the EPAC.
My beef today tropically is more of a comment on a cartoon APP that many little kids watch... specifically my grandson Judah. There I am in the living room watching him play and I hear the following phrase coming from the large screen TV.. "HURRICANES ARE BAD!!!"
:( Now this obviously made me SAD... because no hurricanes are NOT "BAD" the damage a big hurricane can do IS bad... but hurricanes are a natural phenomenon in the tropics that transport energy from the equator to the poles. They are a normal part of life in our part of the world. Would you tell a child in Maine or Montana "SNOW IS BAD!!!" No... I don't think so...

Now I am very happy they do weather on Dinosaur Train... BUT.... let's teach it properly. If you find a good place to hunker down and you have prepared your home or possibly even had to evacuate usually you will have no more damage than a strong summer thunderstorm. I can understand a show called "AFTER THE HURRICANE" to explain to children how things fell down but to make a blanket statement such as "HURRICANES ARE BAD" is just so wrong.
An E5 Tornado is BAD a strong rainstorm that turns into a weak hurricane is a part of life and part of the process of weather in the tropics.
Mind you the blue pterodactyl looked like an IBIS which really confused me as ... the IBIS is the bird most associated with a hurricane and I couldn't understand why the SMURFY IBIS had an issue with hurricanes.
:(
Sebastian the Ibis would NEVER say "Hurricanes are BAD" he'd say..
"Canes are dynamite!!"
The UM Football Team is named the HURRICANES. It was the way the Miamians in 1926 dealt with the aftermath of the disaster of the Great Miami Hurricane the same year the University was scheduled to open.. Rather than be afraid of Hurricanes we embraced them...
Teach children about weather and nature..but do NOT just call a whole species of natural storms "BAD" when they are not.
Sorry... but it REALLY upset me :(
Besos Bobbi
Miamians glorified the power, strength and passion of hurricanes into a legacy of excellence and power. From THE UM to the THE U... Hurricanes are #1!! They are "NOT BAD" they are just part of life in the tropics.
