Tropical Storm Fay - Hallandale Beach Landfall In FL Keys Near Sombrero Beach
Gosh I love this storm. Been a really beautiful storm from our perspective up here in the Miami area and according to friends in Key West it's nice there too! Much needed rain spiraling through the area, pumping up moisture from deep in the tropics across an area that could use the rain badly.
And..for surfers it's fun, fun, fun.
Because it's not too strong but squally people are able to go out between the bands and appreciate the beauty of nature.
In Cuba it was a real killer and they are still suffering from flooding rains. Dramatic coverage online out of Cuba of rescues of people in villages that were

She is currently cross the Florida Keys around the lower keys. Sand Key or Sombrero, not sure what the final spot is but you can see from radar. And you can see her center. Very neatly on radar. Possibly Big Pine. I believe Skeetobite had Big Pine as the landfall point the other day as a friend in Key West asked me about it.
I thought she would come in a bit further to the east but her weather has if not her center.
Tropical Storms are big, messy and wet. And, they are usually asymmetrical as the NHC keeps referring to this. Because of the ULL on her west side she is mostly dry there and her rainfall is displaced over a large area to her east, south east and south south east. At the moment... her tail is STILL over Cuba. And, that big bright tail is going to be lifted up to the north over the whole of South Florida from one coast to another.
It was a very small center. And, if it continues out over Florida Bay it still has the chance to attain hurricane strength but the ULL to it's left my put an end to that.
More wet than windy.
Beautiful, spiraling. Watching TWC...
So... I was wrong on the Key Largo point but the rainfall will head N.. NNW or even NNE or NE out to sea where they placed the watches along the Florida East Central Coast.
Sombrero Beach, one of the nicest beaches in the Keys.
As for me I have been very busy. Went to the beach with my best friend, took pics and some video and just felt the storm. My ex-husband called from Iowa and put the phone up for me to hear my grandson's bris which I listened to in the car in a strong squall in the parking lot. What a virtual world we live in! His name is Benyamin Avrohom if I have the spelling right :) Very sweet and thoughtful of my ex who sent pics from the phone as well. My other son Zalmy is southbound in a rainstorm on the Turnpike somewhere as the bus left late and he has not yet arrived, have to go get him. There is a Torado Warning here now.. beeping on the TV.
So... enjoy the pics and know that we have come a long way from when Irene did this and the team at the NHC is one of the best in a while. I am very impressed by Bill Read who is as nice on air as he is in person, a real mentsch! Keeping the Tropical Storm Watch up instead of putting up a "high wind warning" helped people in Miami take it more seriously and not ignore it and plan it into their day. We will have more rain and the streets are already flooding and there is partial ponding in many places. The wind we will miss, Key West missed most of it and maybe Naples or places south of there will get some but not sure as it looks as if she has become totally absorbed in the frontal boundary.
As for us.. we look east to the cluster of showers in the far Atlantic that the NHC highlighted in yellow as the next possible storm.. Gustav??
I'll be back later... trying to enjoy the loops and get my youngest son back home and settled in for messier weather later this evening.
Always err on the side of caution.
Better safe than sorry is so, so true.
More later.. stay safe, ,stay home.. watch the coverage and enjoy your family or friends!
