Checking in Fast

Hi.. at my brother's for a few minutes checking one or two emails and bank balance etc... things like that..............sorry I can't fix edits and cut and paste so cut around it please and I will edit it later...

thank you to my older son for keeping people updated..
love bobbi

Tuesday..
Don't have power... but have lots of trucks. Trucks of all kinds...

Power trucks from North Houston, from Michigan, South Carolina and Florida. Trucks everywhere. Dirty laundry everywhere too.

Clean up crews in town from SC and there is a lot to clean up.

North Dade looks like a war zone but then you all know that.

Miss you all.. didn't check emails so please forgive me because don't want to slow down my brother's attempt to get back to business. He is a real estate appraiser and banks in Kansas don't seem to understand you can't do drive by appraisals in some areas that don't have lights and it gets dark at 4:30 these days.. and there are no street lights and in some areas.. some... street signs are down. Business is not as usual in Miami but the Fins won so .. we have something to happy for..

Those who are grateful and friendly, laughing, sharing.. exchanging battle stories. Grateful they aren't in Biloxi.

Those who are bitchy and jealous are sitting around bitching someone else got their electric before them.

Brings out a person's true nature and magnifies it for all to see.

Someone bitched at me today SHE has to go find a laundry mat. She has a house full of stinking laundry. I told her I know, I have a lot more people at my house and trust me... it's a lot of laundry. She cursed me out and ran off complaining how no one cares about HER problems.

See this is the problem... with people like that everything is about them.. it is not HER problem.. it's OUR problem and we are all in the same boat. And, it could happen to most of us on the planet depending on our own form of natural disaster or terror attack or whatever could ruin your own parade wherever you live...

A Haitian clerk in Walgreens.. the lady has at least six kids, two grandchildren that I know of living in her house and a few parents asked me concerned how I was and if I had electric. She said her daughter was going to try and find a laundry without long lines. Said, she went to bed last night and prayed..hoped she'd have power.. maybe tomorrow... wished me luck and smiled. The lady in line behind me said in a heavy southern accent, "yeah, i went to bed last night too and hoped we'd all git power cause i sure was hoping someone on my block would git power ... maybe tomorrow.. "

Either you find a way to make do or be thankful for not having it worse or you act like God came down from heaven last Monday to mess up your life.

What is that saying that I am sure someone here knows... about you can't change the wind but you can do something about the sails.. adjust the sails.

Facts..Library is closed.. maybe the rest of the week so I don't have work or income. But, I have food... and an unpaid vacation leave and can't take off for Key West which is open for business because ... I have to stay home and watch the kids... can't leave them at night with candles burning..

Heard that Key West lost power last night.

And... we sat last night in the back of the house watching transformers blow during the rainstorm.

Guess the restoration will be two steps forward and one step back. Texas two step... seeing as how we have guys in bucket trucks with tee shirts that read "Texas Boys"

What a world... A new crazy world...

Reach out and help someone or at least don't bitch... cause we are all in the same boat.

Read an article this morning in the Miami Herald.. thank God I have that every day.. and it talked about the Lisbon earthquake which was ??? 250 years ago? 1755... one of Europe's biggest earthquake disasters on record, helped change the course of history for Lisbon and Portugal.. a country that at that time had a big colonial empire. Things went downhill soon after the earthquake. Interesting article..

Makes you realize we all on Planet Earth all have our own natural disasters to deal with and hope the New Madrid Fault doesn't go anytime soon cause... there are no roofing materials left in South Florida let alone Mississippi and don't think Missouri or Arkansas would be able to find any anytime soon.

Love you all and miss you... miss my daily fix of Hurricane City.

I don't care what anyone says...

2 things stand out loud and clear..1... light poles that were supposed to stand up winds 100 mph didn't.. a lot of them and not random so you can't just blame this on tornadoes..

2... roofing shingles, tiles.. roof damage in North Dade at least (haven't been anywhere else) was WIDESPREAD and there is some structural damage to buildings here and there in my area...

That is not Cat 1 status.. all the books I have at home (and am googless at the moment) all say damage of that sort of closer to Category 2 damage.

On a PRACTICAL level something has to be done about the way storms are rated. They exist on a practical level at ground level and condo level and the damage when not consistent with recon data that even the hurricane center says is often faulty is blamed on eddies and swirls and microbursts.

I have said this before and I will say it again...

A hurricane and it's intensity is the sum total of all it's parts.. ALL.

If a neighborhood had a fast moving storm go through and all the damage is consistent with stronger winds than the NHC says it had.. something is wrong. Where there is smoke there is fire... it doesn't matter if the entire block (not a house or two with a previously bad roof) lost shingles, tiles, barrel tiles and tar paper then you can't say it was a weak Category One because that is not consistent with Cat 1 damage. Almost ALL signage is down.. not a few badly built ones. Trees.. we won't go there ..they are one of the loves of my life but they are trees not someone's life ... but they are down too.

This storm was stronger than a Cat 1 in most areas.. and while the NHC may have gone with landfall near Everglades City the Eastern Part of the center ... you know the area previously known as the "eye" that area "without any clouds" hit SW Florida at a lower lat than the actual given landfall. I don't understand how things are done there... neither it seems does a few people. I know.. paperwork..forms.

But as far as I can see from data from their own guides... damage across all of North Dade County is consistent with a low Cat 2.. Not talking one subdivision to another depending on the builder.. talking for miles..

And..as for that Hurricane Proof Glass they are using all over the Hurricane Coast now for those fancy 20 and 50 and 70 story towers set upon the water's edge.. Got a hot news flash for you .. there is some nice swamp land left in Everglades City that you might want to buy real soon.. heard they are building a jet port, Wal-Mart.. mega city in the glades built with hurricane proof glass that will stand up to a Category 5 Storm..

Lot's of Luck...

On a personal level... the kids are fine.. Levi and Sara (his girlfriend) went out for her birthday last night dressed as a 70s couple.. he had a big Afro and she looked great in a sexy mini skirt, boots and dangling earrings.. dayglo orange 60s wig with bangs. Rivky went to Samantha's to sleep..they have power. Miriam slept at Levi.. no power.. birthday party for Sara. Moe and Deborah have power. Shuky my son comes in today from NY and Miriam goes to NY for a long weekend on Thursday. I'm okay.. talking to a few special friends on the phone and actually writing letters.. real letters..

Been talking to my brother and friends and life..

take care.. more tomorrow or the next day whatever day that is..we are losing track of days

Bobbi
