Tornado Warning Miami --- When It Rains It POURS on 1st Day of the EPAC Hurricane Season... RED RAIN

It finally started raining in Miami again... it finally starting pouring again. Thunder and lightning... the streets are flooding and there is a bona fide tornado warning. Gone are the bright blue skies.... the rain is pounding down onto the hurricane awnings in a staccato symphony of dark rat a tat tats... like someone is drumming fast punctuated by occasional rumbles of thunder and flashes of lightning. It's a real wet Miami May day.

The rain storm and accompanying rotating wall clouds and water spouts is a product of warm, moist tropical air that was coming up out of the south training into a frontal boundary that is draped across the Southeast today from Florida to the Carolinas. The picture above is the one that started it all! It's what I call the "Doral Hook" or the Miccosukee Rain Monster ;)

My son from Iowa who is on the road in Missoula Montana on his way to Seattle called me and I told him "I have a tornado warning now" the way we play meteorological tag in our family. Remember... he had a tornado warning on Ames before he left for Seattle. I'm wondering who is next...

So I should have known earlier when I heard the beginning of gentle rain... today would be different from every other day this week or last week or the week before. I opened the front door.. gone was the bright blue skies and sunshine. Painted wet sidewalks greeted me...

Note the milky white sky... slick sidewalks...

No this is not the beginning of the May Monsoons...but it will up the ante for more rain later this month. Look at the flow...

Any added moisture in the Miami area will enhance the environment and bring us closer and closer to the start of the rainy season. Who knew we'd need a cold front to make the rain start. Truthfully... many a rainy season has started with lingering frontal boundaries.

They do not all start the same way, but in the end the result is dark skies... heavy rain and the streets will flood in Aventura.....

Calling this rain storm the Red Rain Storm...
I'm in Hollywood... under the red blotch at the top of the map...
the rain is falling down...steady, constant, rat a tat tat...

See? Trapping friends in their car while waiting for it to slow down enough to get inside semi-dry.

So.........as the girl on TWC says... we have torrential rains...
no tornado was ever really sighted mind you...
just it seems a rotating wall cloud ;)

But...we had weather ... noisy, loud, wet weather..

What more can you ask for after days of sunny, dry, breezy days in the tropics?

Today is May 15th... the start of the Epac Hurricane Season.

Zero Zip Nada Happening on the 1st day of the EPAC Hurricane Season.

But here in South Florida it's looking awfully tropical for a change... tropically wet that is...

A wet reminder that we are 2 weeks away from the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season!

Ps...the names in the EPAC will be:

Since we are going into what is being hyped as the El Nino to end all El Ninos... we could in fact get down to Zeke if you believe the hype on the 2014 El Nino...

I'll believe it when I see it.......
