2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season ... Coming Soon. Mother Nature Produces the Greatest Show.

2018 was a busy hurricane season.
Multiple landfalls.
Category 5 in Florida.
Florence traveled the Atlantic at a high latitude.
Many articles in April and May said:
It might be a quiet season ....
Don't ever believe articles in April or May making predictions.

Everyone's making predictions about the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Above is the graphic reminding you what happened in the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season. In truth until it's over and in the rear view mirror we won't know what the 2019 Hurricane Season will be like but we can make vague predictions that may verify. What I can tell you with 100% certainty is that it is better to figure out what your own personal needs are, prepare when you have the time and things go on sale and keep the supplies safe, well stocked and away from kids who want to snack through your hurricane supplies and if you do that......you will have a measure of success in saving your sanity should your area be put under a hurricane warning later this year. You may still be nervous and worried and wonder on evacuating but you will have the basics and your favorite drinks and snacks as well as a way to cook food and/or make it through days without power. And, I want to be clear here the only hurricanes we really can properly prepare for are not Category 4 or God Forbid Cat 5 Hurricanes as they need long term planning vs stockpiling water, medications, first aid and your favorite canned food and snacks. Unless your house was built to withstand a Category 5 Hurricane the plan is to evacuate and take what you can with you and let people know where you will be riding out the storm.

Most everyone is forecasting the same thing.
Normal Season or Slightly Above Average.
Anywhere from 12 to 14 Named Storms.
Two Major Hurricanes or maybe three...
Really there is no way of knowing for sure.
Could be four major hurricanes.......
They are good articles with wonderful images.
Wonderful unless that monster is in your city.
I tell people all the time:
It's better to chase a hurricane than......
........have the hurricane chase you to your house.

What can I tell you for certain?
These are the names.

Yes avoid hype always.......

What is a "normal" season? A normal season starts around June 1st though it can begin in late May or have nothing be named until July 1st. June is the average "date" we call the "start of the hurricane season" it's not carved in stone. Hurricanes will happen as well as questionable subtropical storms and Tropical Storms that may be stronger than a weak Category 1 Hurricane and often cause more flooding misery than a fast moving dry hurricane. We should see numerous named storms and this year it appears we will see many form or intensify close to land in the same way Michael crawled around the Caribbean while people tracking online argued if it would ever pull itself together and after Cuba, once close to land in the Gulf of Mexico Michael came together and drew a bead on the Florida Panhandle eventually being upgraded postmortem to a Category 5 Hurricane. That's a normal season in ways. Some normal seasons see Fish Storms swirling away from land after making everyone nervous as they form off of Africa and models show it locked in to landfall in....... oh wait.......it became a Fish Storm.

Hurricanes, despite all we know, are still unpredictable in ways and often surprise us and we do the best we can to give early warnings, educate the public on making the right decisions and hope and pray people prepare properly and hunker down and survive the hurricane. Of course if you are in an evacuation zone it is expected you should hit the road Jack so fast and never look back until you are halfway to Missouri.

Hurricanes are in a way the greatest show in that we watch them begin to form from waves rolling off of Africa or from leftover rain a cold front left behind that merged with some Upper Level Low that became a surface feature or they pop up over land and get named suddenly without anyone expecting that to happen.

Tropical Storm Julia
Born over Florida in 2016

As for the tropics currently.
It's very possible something will develop in the EPAC.
Eastern Pacific Season begins May 15th.
Things are in place for possible development.

Moisture is surging down there.
Coming off of South America...
Moving West.
Winds below...

Water temperatures are warm enough.

In the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico water is warm as well.
Fronts have been dangling around Florida.

The water is warm.
85 degrees in the Florida Keys.

Just keep watching.
Often this time of year stalled out frontal boundaries...
.. mix it up with abundant moisture and cause trouble.
Even without a name wild weather flares up.
Monsoon Season came early to South Florida this year.

Mike's been doing Facebook Live already...

We already had Tropical Disturbance 1
That's what NHC called it.
Images below of it off the SE coast.

Where will the next tropical system flare up?

Meanwhile don't read predictions.
