No Tropical Storms, Enjoy Fireworks on Biscayne Bay... Hurricane, UT Cancels Firework Display

If you are in South Florida today...go out and enjoy the day, the night and the firework displays.

Best Miami display will be at Bayfront Park, near Bayside... near the Arena... on the Bay :)

If you are down tin the Keys...best place to watch in my opinion is from a boat out on the water near Holiday Isle in the Keys.

IF you are looking for Tropical Fireworks in the Atlantic Basin...there aren't any. They were canceled for lack of convection, too much African sand in atmosphere, two weak waves and a high pressure that won't budge .... too much shear and the peak of the season just isn't here...yet.

Not a lot of RED on the JSL Image below.... creepy wave down there near PR nearing the Islands.

You can see this wave is linked to the wave behind it and trying to hold onto tropical moisture slash energy as it tries to slide into the Caribbean under the radar...so to speak. I have issues with this wave. I was hoping to be in Miami watching Ernesto blow tropical kisses at my favorite city but no... it's playing possum a lot like another Ernesto we had a while back. It still could develop (said weakly, suspiciously and annoyed) but it probably won't. Systems that develop close in are a pain in the tropical ass because people have written them off and are out having fun on the water or the beach while it's sneakily trying to develop. But, the high is really, really, REALLY huge and hanging on to it's latitude right now and it's more likely this wave will slide west and possibly cause trouble down the road... if it can, though it probably won't.

Water Vapor shows the lead wave is sort of blocking for the wave behind that has a little more bulk and more of a sense of a center though it's moving west towards the islands and John Hope's graveyard of tropical storms. Some people call this a "wave axis" I call this ... well maybe we shouldn't post what I would call it let's go with what the guys at the NHC call it..

Note the discussion out of the NHC:

"A CARIBBEAN SEA TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 82W/83W FROM 11N TO 21N.
THE BASE OF AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH REACHES 13N78W. ISOLATED TO
WIDELY SCATTERED MODERATE CONVECTIVE PRECIPITATION IS TO THE
NORTH OF 11N TO THE WEST OF 80W."

(seriously isn't my discussion more fun???)

Discussion out of San Juan shows how Cousin Sal is doing his thing:

"AT MID LEVELS...THE PASSAGE OF THE TROPICAL WAVE IS REFLECTED AT
MID LEVELS AFTER WHICH RIDGING PREVAILS IN THE MID LATITUDES JUST
NORTH OF PUERTO RICO AND THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. ANOTHER STRONGER
TROUGH APPROACHES THE AREA LATE NEXT WEEK.

AT LOWER LEVELS...A TROPICAL WAVE NOW CROSSING THROUGH THE
WINDWARD ISLANDS SHOULD PASS THROUGH THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS EARLY
THURSDAY MORNING AND PUERTO RICO LATER THURSDAY MORNING. THE WAVE
IS EMBEDDED IN AN AREA OF RELATIVELY DENSE DUST FROM THE SAHARA
THAT STRETCHES ALL THE WAY BACK TO ANOTHER WAVE NEAR 20 WEST AND
THEN AFRICA."

Oddly..... just like the unimpressive wave changed my plans for the 4th of July...

The City of Hurricane, Utah cancelled their city fireworks. Bummer.

http://www.cityofhurricane.com/ <---- Fireworks called off, but the picnic is still on...

I don't know how I feel about this. It's sad to cancel the 4th of July. It's nice to worry about the environment. Sitting around a big large screen TV on the porch and watching the fireworks in Boston or New York just doesn't cut it.

That old Jimmy Buffett song that someone sang before him at the FLICK comes to mind. "Why don't we get drunk and screw"   I think his name was Uncle Dirty, he used to sing it while we sipped Fruit Punch out of an oversized, fake crystal flower vase. Then Jimmy recorded it... if I lived in Hurricane, Utah.

Independence Day Celebration

fourth flag
This year's Independence Day Celebration will take place on Wednesday the 4th of July at the Hurricane Community Center.  There will be a lot of activities to participate in throughout the day (some the same, some new).  Come join us for a day full of patriotic fun!  DUE TO THE EXTREMELY HIGH FIRE DANGER THIS YEAR THE TRADITIONAL MORNING BLAST AND FIREWORKS DISPLAY HAVE BEEN CANCELLED.
PARADE ROUTE: The parade will travel north on Main Street from 400 South to 100 South, then turn left and travel on 100 South to 300 West, where it will continue up to 300 South and turn left ending at 200 West.  Bring your chairs and enjoy the parade!
Show some patriotic Hurricane pride this year and buy our Fourth of July t-shirt!  For only $8 you can purchase one in white, navy blue, or red.  They will be available in a variety of sizes so you can buy one for the entire family.  Shirts are available at the Hurricane City Office.

You think I make these things up don't ya?

Read about how this fine city out west got the name Hurricane, I warn you it's a folksy, windy story.

I know how they feel. I had a ticket home to Miami for this week and cancelled it. Money is tight as I am stuck between graduations and weddings and the budget really didn't allow a trip to Miami this week and.............the Invest on the Wave was cancelled... much like the fireworks in the City of Hurricane, Utah so I cancelled my ticket....and will go down after the wedding in August. And, here in the homeland of Andy Griffith... when the town is in mourning mode it should be quite a celebration. They will probably put the flags at half-mast afterwards. Heard there's a beer tent... it could be worse, I could be in Utah, more than  2 hours away from the ocean and far away from hurricanes and without any fireworks...

Yup, just like the fireworks....tropical storms have been cancelled in the Atlantic Basin this July 4th.  Hey works for the people who make most of their summer money on holidays like July 4th in Myrtle Beach, Panama Beach, Miami Beach, Hollywood Beach, Wilmington Beach... has anyone here ever been to Tybee Island? That's a beach worth going to ...

So what's a tropical tracker going do with no storms to track in the Atlantic Basin?

Drink a hurricane and...........go watch fireworks at the State Capitol of North Carolina and go home and well...............listen to the song ;) and do do do .......what Jimmy said to do...................

Sweet Tropical Dreams

Ps My advice... have a pitcher of hurricanes and find a place shooting of fireworks or write your name with sparklers and cuddle up with your significant other and ... listen to the music ;)
