Reuters Predicts Hurricanes Now? I don't think so...
Something possessed someone at Reuters today to decide they could predict the next tropical system based on a poor understanding of the Tropical Update from the Hurricane Center this morning.
They said basically that conditions in a few days might favor tropical development. It was a typical, run of the mill tropical update .. what we in the business call the TWO (tropical weather outlook).
This has to be the biggest mistake anyone there has made in ages or the biggest hype attempt or.............. someone's been sniffing too many tea leaves in the bottom of their green tea cup of tea because.. unless they have the rights to Miss Cleo or another fortune teller.. No one at the NHC predicted a storm would develop in 2 days time around Florida and be named Beryl.
Maybe we can chalk it up to a mercury retrograde..
Compare the article with the official update from the NHC..

Somehow................that got turned into this very nicely written press release with added info that there are oil wells in them there Gulf of Mexico making the story obviously that much more important.
Reuters Story: http://today.reuters.com/news/newsarticle.aspx?type=domesticNews&storyid=2006-07-05T122009Z_01_N05405319_RTRUKOC_0_US-WEATHER-NHC-OUTLOOK.xml&src=rss&rpc=22
The actual story below:
A tropical storm could form around Florida over the next day or two, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Wednesday in an Atlantic tropical weather outlook at 5:30 a.m. EDT.
The NHC said showers and thunderstorms were currently located over the Bahamas, central and eastern Cuba and southeastern Florida.
Over the next couple of days, the system could drift slowly westward over the Florida Peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico where several of the key U.S. oil and natural gas fields and refineries are located.
The NHC said environmental conditions were unfavorable for tropical cyclone formation at this time but may become "somewhat more conducive for some slow development" during the next day or two.
The Center will call the next storm Beryl.
Elsewhere, the NHC did not expect any tropical storms to form through Thursday.
Okie Dokie... remember you heard it here first.
No, not SNONUT, not Jim Williams, not Joe Bastardi... not even Max Mayfield.
Reuters predicts Beryl could form.
Well.................truth is................ it *could* and then again, maybe it won't.
But, if Beryl forms out of this that there writer may want to give up his day job and join the team at Accuweather. Be sure to wear the colors of Joe's favorite team and talk a lot about Texas and Rhode Island. Lots of luck.
If it forms..
We will remember you..
No words.
I guess they thought with the shuttle up missing pieces of foam and Korea waiting to launch a few more missles and East meeting West in the world today they had nothing to write about that would really catch the public's eye..so they wrote the now famous Beryl post.
Just proves the point.. Weather is Hot, Hot, Hot these days and weather sells.
You might be watching Shakira's hips but everyone else is also watching the weather loops.
Over and out.. Bobbi
(I love that song)
and this post was a lot better than the one I wrote on myspace about someone being described as wait..wait... let me get it exact: The man is like an incessant mole on the face of the moon. And, that was a generous description.
Good song though but that song "North and South, East and West of my life" got stuck and lost in the windmills of my mind and it's his fault. Creep!
