New Orleans Will Rise Again! Sound Bite to make us happy...but

So, that I imagine was one of the soundbites he wanted remembered to assure us Southerners that he is not really like his father ..Maine, but he is one of us.

Have problems thinking of his part of the region of Texas as purely Southern.

One of my favorite books ever is Joel Garreau's book on America. 9 Nations of America. Still as topical and on the money as it was back when.

Either way...he was stating a fact that we all know. Nice he gets it finally. I mean the electric is on in the French Quarter and the Mayor has said the City will reopen real soon one way or the other.

What did we really need to hear?

We needed to hear that he is bringing the boys home from Iraq. Politically correct to some of you or not. Burns my ass to read every day about car bombings and problems and boys killed, people killed... I think we have done enough to set Iraq up on the road to George W Bush's version of Democracy. Now..I think we should see whether or not they want it..

Now..I think it should be their choice.

That is what democracy is all about.

Choices made by the people involved.

Our nation wasn't set up by France as a democratic experiment a bunch of mal content British evacuees could try. Or was it? Some might argue the fact but either way... Democracy should be by the people or it becomes a democrazy version used by other nations to interfere in another country's form of government. A quiet, moralistic coup d'estat so to speak.

At this point I don't care how we got there..I want out of there.

And, when you see the need in this country to financially rebuild the money can go to much better spaces than forcing American Democracy down the throat of those we have helped put in charge.

Does anyone read history?

Cuba? Boy did that backfire.

Anyway.. what do we need to hear?

We need jobs for people without jobs. We need a better system for the insurance agencies and the whole way the business works.

Food or Insurance?

Trust me a whole bunch of Americans don't have insurance or stay on governtment programs so their children can be covered under Medicaid programs.

Cohesive action by local, state and federal governments in emergencies. Communication is the key word here.

What if the Martians had attacked?

What if a sleeper cell somewhere in this country from some radical terror group succeeded in blowing u the levee system and wiping out the whole port of New Orleans. Would we feel Bush is more accountable than we do now because it was weather and an act of God?

Sorry I prefer blaming Bush who made bad decisions ie: feeding Fema to Homeland Security for lunch after 911. For choosing people to run programs who hadn't been trained in emergency management. For making scape goats of some nice guy way in over his head from Guymon instead of going to the source of the problem and the people in charge.

New Orleans will rise again..

Of course it will. Well, the French Quarter will..the part you and I will go visit to and enjoy but how many of us knew the dirty secret that most cities hide..especially those fashionable tourists towns hosting conventions and your travel dollars? Like Miami... There are poor people everywhere and slums and slum lords and drugs and single mothers raising babies alone with their big sister taking turns baby sitting and working. Fathers lost somewhere on lost in the system. The only square meal children get is thankfully at School.. breakfast and lunch because if you are on foodstamps.. your children eat free. Before going home to not much in the house or fast food someone brings home. Not the healthy meals people spending money at Whole Foods are taking home and calling fast food.

Why is New Orleans ..New Orleans?

Because she has always risen and fought back after adversity. This is not the first flood or hurricane or war or Battle she had to fight. But, now...she is over packed (like most cities) with people who can barely survive on government help or at work in low paying jobs ..one pay check ahead of being on the street.

One disaster away from losing it all.

Floods, twisters, hurricanes, earthquake.

The rich will cash in their policies and add on and fix up and repair their homes.

The poor..the poor will go on there or somewhere else.

Sometimes in life it helps to not have a lot. It is easier to pick up and start over and it is easier to be happy with less.

Odd..but true. No bitching over the loss of a $10,000 sofa that was just bought or new fancy rugs.

And.. does anyone realize that while everyone worries on New Orleans and race relations and poverty and poor city planning and a badly maintained canal/levee system..

MISSISSIPPI..the state..has towns that have been blown off the face of the earth like a nuclear blast was dropped on Highway 90. You don't hear enough about that. You don't see enough pictures of places that have to have a whole new eletricity grid built. Schools, hospitals..roads.

This is a bigger problem than most people in America realize.. a massive problem and if another area of the country gets slammed with a big storm.. or an earthquake.. then what?

Can we please bring the American Boys back from Iraq?

For that matter..why are we closing bases in towns where the economy is bad, very bad..instead of helping those small towns to make sure that a base closure won't be the death of their town. Towns in areas that often did not vote for Bush but for Kerry.

Ain't no words.. really.

Hope the people in charge of the new plans to rebuild the area have good degrees and experience and not just owed political favors.

Bobbi
oh............there are a few nasty waves out there that will threaten the US coast in about 5-7 days. So..pay attention.
