Snowed Sunday! Will There Be a Blizzard This Next Sunday?? Possibly Blizzards Down the Road? Northern Lights Tonight?? Winter Returns!!
EURO below......
EURO on Windy.com for Saturday!
Old storm exits...
..new one waiting in the wings!
As it always does the January Thaw slip slides away fast when the flurries begin to fall, and models begin dishing out a Blizzard Buffet for what's left of January as the Polar Vortex dives deep down again. When I mention models I am talking the EURO not just the GFS as you can see above.
This past weekend we had snow strung out along a narrow line from Destin in Florida to Georgia and up into the Carolinas.... then up into Baltimore and then Upstate New York area where it looks like a true Winter Wonderland where my cute little grandson sleds before the school bus comes and sleds after it drops him off! A tale of two different worlds. In Raleigh if I get an hour of snow I'm euphorically happy! The snow has not melted for a long while in Monsey NY this Winter. However, this coming weekend may bring an Icy package of mixed types of frozen precipitation. And, while I talk on Raleigh and the Carolinas know that this coming Winter Storm will encompass a good third of the country if not more!
Meteorologists who are known for being calm, hype free Islands of sanity in the world of the GFS and it's promises on the 10th day and beyond that never come true are telling people to pay attention! And when certain weather people talk I pay attention. Again this next storm is already less than a week away getting dangerously close to 5 days away depending on where you live in the USA
How far North it gets is the question..
Sunday shows it moving off shore...
...tho covering the DC & Del Marva area!
Meanwhile suddenly the GFS plays it coy...
Much depends on the placement of the low.
Changing to Wind mode...
GFS stays low and out to sea.
EURO higher up
closer to the coast.
And that tells the tale!
Placement of the low...
...path of the low.
So we keep watching.
But if you live in areas in it's path...
...I'd stock up a little on basics.
A strong snow storm in the South (Oklahoma/Texas East to the Carolinas) can cause panic at the disco or on the expressway usually and power goes out. An Ice Storm can take a whole lot more power out and so now would be a good time to get some basics before the bread and canned stuff is sold out at the store. Bread, Milk and Eggs are the basics of any Winter Storm threat in NC. Took me a while to understand why they'd buy milk if the power goes out. But when my husband, raised in upstate NY but here a long time, took the milk and put it out on the deck that was covered in Snow I started to lose it. Oh.... yeah it's not gonna go bad out there. It was a real welcome to a NORTH Carolina Winter. I remembered going to Seminary in Brooklyn and we'd leave our Diet Cokes outside on the window ledge to keep them cold in our bedroom! And I've been told if the snow goes somewhere else everyone just makes French Toast!
Praying for snow.
Praying to see the Northern Lights.
Praying for a Cane Win tonight!!
We will see how things shake out in models throughout the day but know......we may have a chance to see Auroras ... Northern Lights across a wide area tonight if all goes well!
And for my Daddy...........for Miami.......... Go Hurricanes!
