UPDATED LANDFALL at OCEAN ISLE BEACH ... HURRICANE ISAIAS 85 MPH! About to Make Landfall - Waiting in NC for ISAIAS .. A Little Rain and Tropical Clouds. Down in SC They Are Waiting. We Are ALL WAITING for ISIAS to Have That Date with the Trof!!
LANDFALL Ocean Isle Beach.
A beautiful beach, by the way.
In motion.
On July 30th in the blog I said Ocean Isle Beach.
For a Miami girl I've learned NC Hurricane History.
And it was logical if the track was correct...
...that it would clip that South facing beach.
And it did.
You can go back and read what I wrote.
It was a long time ago.
And I've stuck with it for days.
So that happened....
...as I thought it would.
We may have more weather here...
...than South Florida did.
The irony of tropical weather.
Watching Cantore do his thing.
Watching local news.
This storm is an odd set up.
It has wind from the storm.
Hurricane winds.
It has a connection with the trof soon.
There's something called a Jet Streak...
...strong winds in that "Jet Streak"
And fast forward speed adds to the equation.
One wonders how many times this happened but...
...we didn't have the satellite imagery.
Lastly a little bit of Hurricane History.
Hazel made a landfall going North there.
Going to rest, watch, stare at the storm.
And see what sort of weather we get in Raleigh.
Thanks for following along with me.
Rain is picking up here now.
If I don't update in the morning.
If I don't update in the morning.
I slept in or... I lost power.
I really hope I don't lose power.
But we will see what we will see.
And review this later.
Oh and yes there's an area with an orange circle.
Not expected to impact land for now.
Talk on that tomorrow.
Tonight it's all about Isaias.
Oh and Myrtle Beach had it's 3rd highest surge.
Hazel did a job on them too!
A bit of hurricane history repeating.......
9 PM.
HURRICANE ISAIAS!
How bout that....
...how do you like him now?
1st off sorry for any typos.
Had a crazy time late this afternoon.
A bit hyper and had to stop to update the blog.
HURRICANE!
As they forecast.
Just ahead of landfall.
Not the best defined storm on satellite imgaery.
But radar and other tools confirmed the NHC forecast.
It's moisture field is over the Carolinas.
Having that road open over the dam was like winning the lotto. Was closed a long while during Covid. Was surprised it was open. Falls of Neuse Dam. #Isaias pic.twitter.com/QVdiot0rja— BobbiStorm (@BobbiStorm) August 3, 2020
I've had an incredible afternoon out and about, chasing some storms in distant bands as Isaias made its' move up towards the Carolinas. This image below shows when I saw huge, long, wall clouds sweeping across the sky near my home after going up to the Falls of the Neuse Dam while it was open before it closes at 5 to get some video there. It had rained, by the time we got to the dam it was still raining and I took a walk across the bridge that you can ride across where the dam is to see the sky to get huge vistas. In Raleigh it's hard to get a good view of the sky as we are the City of Oaks, but North Raleigh where I live should be the City of Pines as they block the horizon in almost every direction.
So understand that wall cloud...
...the leading edge of the weather.
Was hovering overhead while the center..
...was still out in the ocean.
Sampling all of South Carolina beach towns.
As we traveled towards Triangle Town (a Mall)
Where weather likes to congregate.
This huge roll cloud appeared between the pines.
Exciting. So exciting. Takes your breathe away.
Stunning clouds today as a band from Isaias moved into #Raleigh. Letting everyone know it’s for real pic.twitter.com/TfKgHCuqsh— BobbiStorm (@BobbiStorm) August 3, 2020
The problem in NC is for real.
It's not Oklahoma.
It's not Florida.
It's hilly with trees everywhere.
Didn't want to stop and go back
because wanted to get to the open road.
Where low scud like clouds were just above me.
#awesomeness despite the hard to see horizon. By the time could stop and see it was over us. #wild #clouds from #Isaias in #Raleigh #ncwx pic.twitter.com/p40n5k6rgW— BobbiStorm (@BobbiStorm) August 3, 2020
You can hear the wind here.
#windy #wild line just came thru #north #Raleigh #TropicalStorm #Isaias #TropicalStormWarning pic.twitter.com/rpAkCNWfKJ— BobbiStorm (@BobbiStorm) August 3, 2020
God I love weather.
Any weather but troipically inspired even more so.
ISAIAS was making it's move into NC.
Got a tropical storm warning and clouds here in raleigh.
Dark sky and pines all watching the tropical show.
The front & the #storm #Isaias has a date. It better not be late. #Raleigh w a rare #TropicalStormWarning how far inland does it go? The combination of an early August Front & a tropical system can create misery pic.twitter.com/FyOI8Cb5YL— BobbiStorm (@BobbiStorm) August 3, 2020
Supposedly the worst of the weather...
...will be the NW of the center.
That's Raleigh, Wilson, Rocky Mount.
Time will tell.
And that's the news from the Carolinas.
Not my best picture ;)
But told Mike to get masks.
Sure others did so felt it was my duty...
...to wear my Conehead Mask for the chase.
I'm smiling, really.
And it's raining now heavy so I'm going to go.
And watch the rain and listen to the wind in Raleigh.
Amazingly while I was out and about today.
My grandaughter was at the beach in Florida.
Saying goodbye to ISAIAS that was kind to Miami.
Kind of full circle.
She was raised in Crown Heights....
...but her parents decided to move to Florida.
Now she's been through Hurricane Irma...
...and a lucky side swipe by Isaias.
It's what we do.... we watch the sky and the waves.
And feel the beauty of the moment.
Kind of beautiful to see for me.
And I'll be back later.
Hopefully Raleigh won't be that bad..
..but power outages are possible.
So we will see how it goes.
As I said Ocean Isle, Bald Head...
Cherry Pt. All the small towns Down East.
But even Raleigh has probabilites ...
...and we have a Tropical Storm Warning.
Keep reading if you haven't done so.
Landfall will impact Ocean Isle
Thanks for bearing with me today.
Getting storm impacts in Raleigh is huge.
Will see what we get.
****
Noon below....
I took a walk this morning just before a band came through.
Not an strong band but fast moving rain.
Note that itsy bitsy patch of pale blue.
These dark clouds were on the move.
You know when they look like spies...
...sent out to scope out the land before the battle.
A weather battle is coming.
A front moves towards the coast after dipping South.
The tropical storm moves slowly towards the front.
It's a Tropical Romance Novel of sorts.
Will their date fizzle or...
will their chemistry combine to give a knock out punch.
And who gets the punch?
Easy to say Rocky Mount and Wilson get more than here.
But sometimes nature surprises us.
Almost like a #weather #romance #2020 style. They are wearing #masks don’t worry. Where do they meet up? #Raleigh? #Richmond? Ricky amount? #Willson? #NewBern or #Wilmington? Will Isaias have chemistry with the trof? Stay tuned .. https://t.co/XLVVLmtkcS writing now pic.twitter.com/KLbvvK4jco— BobbiStorm (@BobbiStorm) August 3, 2020
The NHC Cone has not really changed.
They hoisted a Tropical Storm Warning for Raleigh.
You wouldn't know it driving around town.
Been offline often trying to get a feel for it all.
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIAPWSAT4+shtml/031452.shtml?
When you get two lines in probs...
..it ups your chances.
Note Rocky Mt has 3 lines.
Hmnnn
Wind Probs....
...forecast discussion from NHC.
NHC stands by their man.
They still insist it's a hurricane briefly.
That said @iCyclone did not turn West on I-10
Seems to be sniffing around in the Carolinas.
The scent of tropical weather fills the air.
Any kind of tropical wather is better than none.
Back in Florida ... one long last look at that stormy ocean.
Beautiful gray poetic picture.
As for me I ditched Wilmington ...
...staying in Raleigh waiting to see what happens.
Step by step. Moment by moment.
Probably stronger to my East.
Ocean Isle Beach area near landfall.
TWC says between Chaleston and Myrtle Beach.
Got a friend staying in MB watching.
Got a friend in Hilton Head on vacation watching.
Obviously my friends don't run from weather.
Always wondered what Raleigh would be like with TS winds.
Maybe I'll find out.
As always you can easily see the models and loops
Aren't we all so enthralled with weather?
Tropical weather.
Any weather.
Oh my gosh I dream of snow storms.
And I dream of Snow.
But waiting to see a tropical wind blow here.
Waiting.
Going out soon to get some pictures.
A squall line is supposed to come in..
I'll see in real time here in Raleigh.

...back in the saddle again!!
