Snow In Raleigh.. winter storm NC/VA area

Sort of late in the winter for Mother Nature to remember but we finally saw snow in the Raleigh area tonight. About an inch on the ground where I am and more coming down. An inch of snow after an hour or so of sleet so the bottom later is icy and the snow was very wet. I'm not sure what that means as I'm a Miami girl, but everyone seems to feel it's important to say so ...am throwing it in.

It wasn't in the forecast. Been watching the 7 day and 10 day and even looking longingly for the 15 day but nothing. Then suddenly Friday afternoon they began to whisper about a possibility of rain with some "wintry mix" and then Saturday they suddenly put it in the forecast. Nice. Strange. I'm happy...

Will melt fast tomorrow, but the morning should make for some beautiful pictures and lots of smiles round the Triangle, before it melts fast as the sun comes out.

Windy tonight too. Very heavy rain, then sleet, then magically snow swirling about under the street lights. Would have preferred daytime snow, but any snow this winter is an extra bonus it seems.

I've been watching the forecast. Actually OCDing on the forecast because am leaving back to Miami in a few days and I figure this was my last chance to see snow falling this year.

Sweet.

Drive safe, enjoy.

Heard DC didn't get as much as they thought, as the system danced around NC and Virginia got slammed. A bit strange that Richmond's getting snow and it's 33 degrees while it's in the 40s in Fairfax and DC. But, what do I know?

Sweet snowy dreams...
