G - H - I and Josephine May Be Forming... Hurricane Alphabet Soup!

Above is a windy forecast for Hanna and Ike. That's right, faster than a speeding bullet with more power than a locomotive... the rest of the 2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season is coming at you...

But..for those who want to know a bit about Gustav I am going to defer to the best source for news on the aftermath of that storm as the rest of the EAST COAST has something more compelling to think on and that is Hanna and Ike.

This is the link to the Times/Picayune that is the place to go for all info on New Orleans and it's surrounding parishes. From damage reports to timing on when people are allowed back into New Orleans this is the best place to go. Suffice it to say

Very good read on an article by PETER BUSENLENER about tips for evacuation and staying close with those relatives who live outside the Cone Zone (my term!

Called "Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda" it's a great read from someone who has been there for those of you who may be there later this week.

So...going to segue to Hanna.

Everyone listen up because everyone from South Florida through Maine and CANADA is in the 5 day Cone Zone! Pay attention.

Let me say this again... everyone from Florida through Maine and CANADA is in the 5 Day Cone Zone!

This is not hype this is honest to gosh the way it is on Tuesday Morning after Labor Day!

So everyone in all of those states, countries and lucky enough to be in sailboats along the Intracoastal know you are ALL should be watching this weak little storm barely moving west as it will at some point loop back up and slam into or sideswipe your city later this week. I mean it could be a fish and a miss but doubt it with the way the high has set up this summer. So... be alert, pay attention!

Or you could do what we do down here in the Summer of 2008 and wait for the 3 day cone...

Speaking of the Berumda Riddge.... Hanna is not the end all or be all as the real worry for South Florida is Ike who is about 6 days or so down the pike from staring South Floridians in the eye with what is forecast to be a Category 2 and probably a Category 3 storm.

Let me say this again...

Ike though weak right now is forecast by intensity models to be at LEAST a Category 2 somewhere between the Mid Bahamas and the North Coast of Cuba in 5 days headed WEST. Trust me if it hits TWO it will hit THREE as intensity forecasts are notorious for under-estimating intensity in my opinion and that's what I am giving.

Ike once he finds his power in the zone is going to ramp up and move unrelentingly west towards South Florida and the north coast of Cuba. This is a 5 day and it will be refined like oil is into a more pure forecast that will pinpoint the part of the coastline that needs to worry most on it. But..for now...know it's there and it's moving this way.

If you thought the alphabet stopped at I be warned it doesn't and what will be upgraded to Josephine is now currently the newest storm on the block Tropical Depression #10!

This is his press release:

"AT 500 AM EDT...0900Z...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL DEPRESSION TEN WAS
LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 12.4 NORTH...LONGITUDE 23.9 WEST OR ABOUT 170
MILES...270 KM...SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHERNMOST CAPE VERDE
ISLANDS.

THE DEPRESSION IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 16 MPH...26 KM/HR. A
MOTION BETWEEN WEST AND WEST-NORTHWEST IS EXPECTED FOR THE NEXT TWO
DAYS. ON THE FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF THE DEPRESSION WILL
REMAIN WELL SOUTH OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS TODAY...AND MOVE AWAY
FROM THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS LATER TONIGHT."

Yup... if Josephine forms she will be an official CAPE VERDE HURRICANE!

And..if you didn't remember today is September so as the rhyme goes that you can't forget "September Remember" and we are still a full two weeks before the peak of the hurricane season!

If you have some extra time today and would like to play meteorologist here is the National Hurricane Center's website and with Gustav, Hanna, Ike and #10 as well as some storms elsewhere to watch you could work your way through tropical weather the whole day! Think of it as a new diet! Just do weather, sip coffee and look at the clock and you too can feel like you work at the NHC!

As for me.. I have to go to work..where I will be meeting and greeting beautiful, young ladies who are starting their Fall Semester today while peeking at Hanna who though not on campus today may be on campus Thursday or Friday registering for late registration.

Over and out... Besos Bobbi!

Hold onto this for a W name as we might get there this year!!
