AS WE WAIT FOR HURRICANE IVAN TO TURN... TURN ...TURN...

A long time ago in a land far, far away in the year 1995 or 1996 I first read posts online about hurricanes. Someone named SNONUT was posting kick ass forecasts better than any I had seen on the local news or from the NHC. And, someone named Pete who went by the screen name Ptravel was posting eye for eye with him. Keeping up to par with SNONUT's brillant forecasts. At times I would say that Pete was actually more on the money but SNONUT was more fun to read... more in your face at times and showing bits and pieces of wit and wisdom and an obvious love for the movie Risky Business.

So they had their running duel or dance or just good old fun of forecasting and posting online the most accurate forecasts. Two up north guys who seemed to be more concerned with the winter forecasting but a distant far away love of tropical weather. SNONUT's explanation was he had a company that had to be concerned with tropical weather because of his shipping line clients. Anyone can see how this is important.. anyone involved with the shipping line business can't just worry about New England Blizzards off of Nantucket but worried about storms named Nancy popping up in late November wiping some ship off the map. Ptravel was a travel consultant. You know..for all those "hit the road Jack" types who constantly need to know what whether to put the top down or fly off on a sailship.

That was then...this is now.

Headlines of the Keynoter yesterday from what I have heard was Turn, Turn, Turn. Great song. Some old boyfriend loved that song. Was it Morry or Ed? Don't remember... such is early onset of short term memory loss and my mind being elsewhere. Either way they both loved music. So... there is the most easy bridge here to the lyrics to the day. Turn, Turn, Turn... everyone is waiting for Ivan to turn.

Heard Norcross said tonight (straight from Sharon's play by play.. which is better than I am getting tonight on the Red Sox game I may add) that he seemed very upset, not a happy camper and until Ivan makes the turn.. and Ivan makes a real MOVE.. as in direction and speed... all bets are off in his mind. As I told at least a half a dozen people tonight while laying low and hiding from the world... "if the forecast is off on speed and intensity you have to figure that the whole track forecast is off as well" You can't be this off on forward motion. NHC has been saying, as have most forecasters, Ivan would move wnw to nw through Jamaica and continue on that track for three days at which time it would slow down and intensify before moving slowly across Cuba. Something about Ivan losing strength as he battled with Jamaica (a real mistaica there) and find his groove south of Cuba and explode and then suddenly move slowly over Cuba. Pick up some speed and regroup in the Straits and move towards Florida somewhat faster. Well... didn't happen that way. On www.flhurricane.com someone started a thread saying that until forward motion and speed is a certainity then ... waiting and made some nebulous comment on Mitch. Norcross did too.

So... as we wait for him to turn.. turn.. turn.. sing along with me and enjoy a page from www.keynoter.com

I think the track of Dennis 1981 btw is an interesting track.. if we are going to buy into the eventual sharp turn.

Still think IF he turns.. and doesn't slam into the Yucatan ...that it will be more NNE at landfall.. at least.

Will see... beautiful storm to watch it spin as you wait for it to turn, turn, turn.
Pete is responsible for Turn, Turn, Turn.. he was very spiritual in his way. Probably still is if he is still around.

See??? Haha.. I know who sings this song.. Peter. Again.
Then again you can sometimes fall in love with someone who simply doesn't care who sang the song.. just likes to listen and enjoy.

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven
A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together
To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven
A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing
To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late
