Snow Storm Possible For Carolinas, Virginia, Parts of Georgia....... Coastal Storm Could be Impactful Up the East Coast. Will This Shut Down I 95? Maybe... Stay Prepared & Aware.
This is a NOAA map not your phone App!
This is the EURO not the GFS.
This begins 3 days from tonight.
Low forms off the coast.
Low strengthens.
Moves up the coast.
Lots of snow.
(not ice not sleet but snow)
Note it intensifies in 2nd picture.
Some say tropical storm winds off the coast.
Some say near hurricane force low.
Next picture is further UP the coast.
Check out the wind profile...
Again the EURO
GFS below.
Gonna be a lot of coastal erosion.
Wild coastal storm either way...
There are so many models, but for some clarity here, I don't want to muddy the waters too much or the snow totals by throwing too much information about a storm that is set to start snowing on Friday evening not the 10th day of the GFS.
We still have sleet on the ground in places all over Raleigh, some has melted, some has not and the ground is cold and the cold air is in place so I can't laugh off talk on a snow storm. I'm not even ready to laugh off a historic one though we just had a Winter Storm that while strong did not produce catastrophic damage and the power was on still (God Bless) and the ICE wasn't thick because the sleet overproduced. Still for Raleigh it's been a lot. So add on 8 inches or 10 or even the historic 20 inch range from 2000 that no one who lived here will ever forget! So let's look at some videos.
8mm how fun ... a look at several days in 2000.
The models were not as good or as many.
The 200 storm was not forecast very well.
So it was a surprise for most.
Good post from a great Met in Myrtle Beach
For all of the Carolinas below.
And Mike enjoying making graphics...
My bottom line at Noon is if you live in the Carolinas you should expect to see snow, and Virginia as well. I'm talking the Tidewater, the Piedmont and "Down East" by the coast they may have an Ice problem or snow by the beach. So expect beautiful videos on that beach snow if indeed it falls....
Sure more models will be running and we will be officially 3 days away soon and there are official "things" that must be done, decisions made by local governments have to begin preparations. Tomorrow is kind of D Day when it comes to a higher level of "this is happening" and early advisories. When they prepare you should and IF you prepared for a historic Ice Storm in Raleigh you should have most the supplies in place. Personally I left the box where I put all the Emergency supplies in the same place as I knew we were far from over from the threat of more snow in this pattern that seems for a while locked in place. When the Polar Vortex sends a "lobe" of energy down this way everything changes and it should begin late Friday evening if the models verify.
Pay attention to local weather experts, NWS ...whoever you prefer and stay aware of updates and prepared for whatever we get be it a nice coating which makes Carolinians freak out to an OMG historic event.
As for Florida..........as for Miami and Tampa. There is so much hype about Gulf Snow and yet it "could" happen, it has happened a few times but it's rare. Either way COLD AIR will be zooming down into the Florida area all week. And when the Arctic Air blows into Miami it can be damn cold, a bone chilling cold as the winds that brought it down are strong and literally go through you even if you still have the Winter Clothes you brought back when you moved to Miami in the closet somewhere. You may need it. As I told my daughter, Wind Chill will feel that bad IF you are outside running around. Stay home. (She won't... )
Wind chills lower
Stay layered up....
Will update when there are definitive updates.
Definitive snow possibilities.
For now prepare, stay aware
Check back here and elsewhere.
February promises Winter 2026 keeps on raging!

I have a few friends who left town recently...
...the ICE Storm concerns were high.
A few people have asked me...
"how far do I need to go to get away from snow"
others.....coming to Raleigh to chase snow.
IF models verify!!
Others taking a Holiday...
So much to say and not sure where to start. Remember we are still outside the "for sure 100%" that this snow storm dumps huge amounts of snow on the Carolinas, Virginia and then moves it up along the coast to cloak New York again in snow. We are easily past 90% sure and it's time to have a real conversation about this January 2026 continuing on into February 2026 as there is another chance of a snow storm for the same area a week from tomorrow should that verify.
