October 1st. Sam, Victor, Waylon and Willie

NHC is in October mode it seems.
They are down to the basics.
Sam and Victor.
Sam is a slow mover, major hurricane.
Victor looks photogrenic today.
Both moving away....

The image above is from the MIMIC Loop. Note the moisture low in the the SE Caribbean, not doing much but just haging around? Notice that odd forerunner sort of retrograde like tail of Victor that spreads out ahead of him and then loops up into Sam? If any of that moisture gets into the deep SW Caribbean in a few days there is the potential that something could try and form. Sam will have left finally, Victor moved on and yet often remnant moisture and old tropical waves (Invest 91) have a way of flaring up in the depth of the Caribbean. Think of them as pirate waves or wanna be pirates in dinghies dreaming of being a big storm some day.

As it's October 1st, it's good to review where the hot spots are in the tropics for tropical formation and tracks. Where moisture hangs out and pressures lower is where you look for tropical trouble. This is why I watch remnant waves and clusters of convection that are wandering into the Caribbean in early October. And, then as I have said before they catch a cold front either out to sea or directly to your door just when you thought it was all over.

Keep that in mind and have an incredible weekend! It's cooling off in Raleigh, degree by degree literally day by day with Indian Summer trying to sneak in but day by day it cools off and fall colors show up leaf by leaf as our nights are cool and are daytime temperatures are warm but not hot like summer warm!.

Stay tuned....
